Delta seating questions...
I hope this is the correct place for seating questions:
I'm flying a Delta 757 from DTW to ATL and I'm looking at EC seats. I'm wondering what the story is with Row 19, seats D and E. There doesn't appear to be a window seat in this row. Is that correct? Would my wife be able to put her carry-on between her seat and the window after takeoff, or is the emergency exit there? We're looking for plenty of legroom (I'm 6'4") and wondering if Row 20 A and B would be better. Next flight is a Delta 747-400 from ATL to HNL. Does Row 22 have decent leg room? Looks like there's a bathroom in front (which concerns me a bit). Last flight is a Delta 737-900ER from SEA to DTW. I'm looking at Row 10 seats A and B. Extra leg room? I apologize if these are dumb questions... |
For your 757 leg that is an emergency exit. The door protrudes to where the 3rd seat would be. You cannot store anything in or around that area. Treat it as if it was a bulkhead until after takeoff.
That being said 20F uses that area for legroom. There is not much legroom on the 900 as there is a bulkhead in front of you. C and D in row 10 is nice because you can stretch out into FC. |
Emergency Exit Row for the 757...
I have flown in the Emergency Exit Row 19 on a 757 before...In front of where 19F would be is where the emergency slide is for the emergency exit door, that is why there is no 19F.
Hope that helps! |

21A & 21F are decent, if you don't mind asking people to move to use the lav. The are NO OTHER good Y seats on this bird. Period. :) http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Del..._737-900ER.php |
For legroom, and for a couple traveling together, you can't beat 19D and E on the 757. You will have to put everything in the overhead bin, and it may get tricky as overhead bin space is limited in that part of the plane (overhead bins don't even start until back over row 20 or so), but it is totally worth is for tons of legroom and the fact that in any other seats on the plane you'll have a third person sitting with you.
On some configurations of the 757, there is some "extra" overhead bin space just ahead of row 19 but behind the business class cabin. The FAs often guard it jealously and won't let you use it during boarding (presumably to save it for business class passengers who may need it), but for something like a small purse especially, if your wife just holds it in her lap during boarding, when the FAs come around during final safety checks they will likely put it in those overhead bins at that point. |
Thanks, everyone! Just need a 747-400 expert now...

Row 22 has lots of leg room. The aisle seats of row 22 would not be my preference because you are very close to the toilets. The bulkhead wall extends from the window to a little past the middle seat, leaving the aisle seats with more leg room since the bulkhead wall doesn't extend that far. If you must have an aisle seat, I would not choose Row 22. If you like window seats, row 22 is the best, and if there are two of you, the middle seat is not bad either because it is easy to get out due to the large amount of legroom in the first EC row. The reason I would not choose row 22 if you need an aisle seat is because of the toilet. I've sat on that plane in row 23 aisle and could smell the toilet. Of course, it was on longer international flights, 14+ hours, as compared to the 9 hour Atl-Hnl flight. So...you might risk it. Good luck. Hope this helps. |

I've waited 40 years and NEVER thought I'd get one. To my surprise, Delta swapped the plane out from a 757 to a 747. |

Yes! Thank you. We're taking the window and middle seat. Thrilled and looking forward to my first (and probably last) 747 ride.
I've waited 40 years and NEVER thought I'd get one. I doubt I'll manage a DL 747 in its golden years, but who knows? Fuel prices are down, maybe the'll keep 'em a little longer... :) |
Update! To quote my wonderful wife "you only live once and we're never going to have the opportunity to fly on a 747 again," so she gave me the okeedoke to UPGRADE TO FIRST CLASS! We're now upstairs with the refined and well-heeled. 9 nights in Hawaii will be no match for this 9 hour plane ride!
We had to take first class from to DTW through to HNL, so our lavish experience is running an extra $944 PP. Ouch! Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions! I feel like I just got seats in the dugout at Yankee Stadium. |

That's the best advice!! To sit in the Upper Deck of a 747 is like no other experience. If you're doing this both ways, I suggest sitting on the K side both ways -- that way you'll see both sides. If you're only doing it one way, sitting on the K side will give you views of Diamond Head, Waikiki Beach etc. as you approach landing. You will have 3 windows per seat. UD is the best-- 2 toilets; 2 FAs; pilots with you... It is like you have your own personal jet! Enjoy! I have not had a bad seat in the UD.
I'm in 77A and my wife is in 77K, so she'll be thrilled with the view. |

One way is better than none. Plus you get to keep your kidney! You can see the other islands from your side. You might even get a chance to see the telescopes atop Mauna Kea -- on the big island of Hawaii!! So it's all good.
Enjoy your visit to the islands. I'm from there so if you have any questions, just send me a PM. |
