$400 Delta Certificate or 27.5k miles

I have a choice of $400 Delta Gift Certificate or 27.5k miles. I'm leaning toward the $400. Any feedback?

Those DL$400 are way easier to use.

Of course it depends on how you value points, are you saving points for a trip etc.

For me. The $400... No question

Will the $400 be multiple certificates or just one? They're not combinable.

I value Skymiles at 1.1 cents/mile, 27.5k would be $302.5. Under normal circumstances, I will take the 400$.

However, If I am 27.5k short for a J ticket redemption, than I will take the miles instead because the value would be greater than $400.

If you can find a desired round trip using award miles for either 25k or 27.5k skymiles, then take the skymiles. This round trip should be at least or > than $275 in price if you had to pay cash for it.

There are some short notice round trips that I can get for 25k skymiles where as I would have paid cash of $600 or more for the same ticket.

Otherwise take the voucher.

Yes. I would take the voucher even if the value of the cash ticket is < $600.
One does earn MQMs, RDMs and MQDs on a cash ticket.
And nothing on the award ticket using Skymiles.

Yep, $1 off the next ticket within a year, and earning MQMs/RDMs/MQDs on both tickets.

Yesterday I'd have said the $400. Probably today too, but 27K RDM is a big chunk of what I'll probably earn in 2015

About what I'll earn on 3 TATL flights...

If you're not a DL CC holder, you might want to consider the miles since they are no harder to come by

Wow, you are tough! PWM yields 1 cent/mile and I rarely get under 2 cents/mile value from my DL award tickets. But then I only use miles when I can get a ticket that would otherwise cost at least that value. I guess flying to AK a lot helps in that regard. Fares are often pretty hefty to ANC and FAI and elsewhere in AK.

No longer transferable. But if the recipient can use it, it isn't a dealbreaker.

Well I value one-way award the most. Unfortunately Delta introduce the 5 tier award chart, and I am less likely to get the dates I want at savers level.

Also flight originate from Europe to NA have high YQ, travelling in J from NA-Europe would cost me 62.5K one-way and with the elimination of stopover for RT, it's just not as valuable anymore...
