Standby List
I called in today to do a same-day standby for an earlier flight tomorrow morning. The agent mentioned that the first segment looked like I would clear no problem, but the second segment might be a little more difficult. I asked her how many available seats they were on the second flight, and she said that she was not allowed to give out that information. I have definitely been told in the past how many open seats there are, so I found that a little odd. I didn't really press it though, because I figured I could just look at the upgrade/standby list on the Delta app
Well now when I look at the app, it is not showing the standby list. it just shows me the upgrade list, as well as how many available seats there are in first class and in economy. I don't remember reading about this elsewhere, is this something new? Or is it maybe just a glitch? |
And checking it on my PC, I see this:
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...psc0faa2d3.jpg Definitely new and another step back. Although it is standby, it's nice to have at least SOME idea what the chances are ahead of time. It's nice to give people who you may be meeting a good idea of whether to expect you or not. Or in this example I'm going to be heading to the airport much earlier in the morning now. If it looks like there's a chance I'll make it I have no problem going and missing out. But if I can see that I'm waaaaay down the list and there's little to no chance of making it then I can save myself some time and just take the original flight. |

It does say that your name will not appear on the standy list until you are activated by the gate agent. Probably why you don't see the standby list, since you're technically not activated for it yet?
Huge step back and another slap in the face by DL making all their information opaque. Informed customers are dangerous customers, I guess... |
I thought checking yourself in activated you?

Guess I'm confusing SDS with non-reving, where I've seen the standby and upgrade lists just by checking in (which activates you).

BTW, not to sound stupid but what's a Vanilla Card (per the other thread)? |

The OP said that they had called in to do a Same day stand by. I'm thinking that they didn't get same day sb confirmed, as that screen shot is showing that they aren't activated yet.
SDC = Same Day Confirmed SDS/SDSB = Same Day Standby One cannot be "same day sb confirmed" as you are either on standby or confirmed. If you are one, you are by definition not the other. In all of the times I've done SDS, I have always been able to see my place on the SB list immediately upon checking in and requesting the SDS. I have never seen the "must be activated by the GA" message. If the ability to view SB position in advance is now gone, that is a significant loss in visibility for those of us that use the SDS benefit. |
All I can say is that my sister was a non-rev today and when I was checking her reservation I only got that red message, even after she'd checked in and had a seat assigned! Something's not looking right... Without seeing the list is like taking away EF.
And what does a Gate Agent have to do with it anyway?! Surely not all standbys are going to be expected to present themselves at the counter to get on the list? |
The first flight has 85 seats. The second has only eight seats empty on the plane. Also in the past anytime that I have done a same day standby, the phone agent has been able to tell me exactly where I am on the list, and how many seats are available. This time they said specifically that they were not allowed to release that information. Also I have seen myself on the standby list. This time not only am I not on the standby list, but the standby list has completely disappeared. Even when I'm not doing same-day standby, when I check the upgrade list on my regular flights, I will see the standby list with other peoples names on it.
For those of you with a confirmed flights in the next 24 hours, take a look at the upgrade list and you will notice that the standbys have completely disappeared |
Interesting, now I can see the standby list in my app. But my name is not on it, and there are only a few names. My guess is that those are non-revs that are listed as standby. And then it is not showing paid customers that are on standby
