Cannot select seats ...none available..

Got my flight confirmed LAX - MCO but when I go to pick seats none are available and I don't have a seat assigned ( in red color). Been a while I flew DELTA so not sure how this works..

You'll have to wait till checkin. Then any free seats will open. If you still can't get one then you'll be given a gate pass and have to wait for the GA to assign you a seat. BTW EC seats are only given away for free by the GA. If you try and select one at checkin, even though all other economy seats are full, you will still have to pay for it.

A decent seat might open up in the few days before the flight, so keep checking.

But if only bad seats become available, you might be best to not select any seat. In that case the GA must assign it, and it often comes out of seats vacated by the last minute upgrades, which are almost always good seats.

Not having a seat is not much of a risk (other than you might get the worst seat on the plane, but that has likely already been reserved or assigned).

also check back about 5 min after the upgrade windows open (6pm local time at 5, 3, and 1 day(s) prior to flight)

Usually bulkhead seats (EC) open up at T-24 before departure, so you might want to check back around that time as well.

NO, the upgrade window opens at 5 pm ATL time, 6/4/2 days before the flight (for example, Tuesday for a Monday flight, etc.). Some upgrade also seem to happen in the middle of the night, perhaps around 2 am ATL time.

In the past, we would have advised the OP to set free seat alerts on EF but sadly DL has taken away that option.

Thanks for info. The thing is I don't want to pay $89 for the upgrade to EC. I just need my economy seat :-(

I think what we're all trying to say is... When the upgrade windows open, and when the bulkhead opens at T-24, elites will move up to F or to those EC seats, freeing up space in economy for you to pick a seat.

The important thing to know is that you don't have to pay for EC, but at times the website and kiosks might make it look like you do. If EC seats open up and are the only option, just refuse to select them. As someone else said, you'll get a gate pass to use to go through security and then at the gate you'll be assigned a seat right before departure. You might even get assigned EC for free at that point (and only that point).

It just means that the only economy discomfort seats available are the "Preferred" seats (which have no extra legroom except if it is an exit row). If no regular seats open up before your flight to switch into you will be assigned one at the gate. I once had 30C on a 75S and the Gate Agent made a call in the gate area that she had exit row seats available. I told her I would even take a middle (the only options were middle and window in Row 36) if there was no extra charge. Needless to say that opened up a regular seat for someone else (I think the Gate Agent was happy to have an aisle seat as all of them were booked before I made the switch)

Is 25B a good seat on a 757 (MCO-LAX)? I know its middle seat but seems to be in the EC section.

and how about 24E?

If you are looking for a non-elite answer, I will tell you that no great seats will ever open up for you, bulkhead or EC-- dream on. Timing won't matter a bit.

I have set up a seat alert thru the seat alerts app and that has got me out of the middle seat.

There are 8 different seating configs for the 757. Tough to provide an answer without knowing which one you are talking about. Are they asking you to pay for the seats? Why would you think it's in EC if not? Looking at some upcoming flights, it appears they typically fly this with a 75X. Rows 24 and 25 are not in EC on this model. Row 25 will have limited recline due to being in front of an exit row.

Closer to 5:25pm ET at the 6/4/2 day mark but who keeps track. ;)

Did you by any chance by an "E" fare economy ticket? This is a new fare class that Delta introduced earlier in the year that does not allow you to select a seat until check in.

I don't know how this would show up when you go to select seats but it would be something to check. If you go into trip details, you can pull up the receipt for your ticket and you can check the listed class for your ticket to see if it is "E" or one of the different coach fares from the long alphabet of available fares.
