Update from Delta News Hub (28MARCH17):

http://news.delta.com/delta-and-kore...nd-partnership

Will this mean a move from Group 4 partner to Group 1? Delta SkyMiles PR rep says:

"... the details you’re looking for will be figured out further down the road"

Further from the Delta press release on the date of the JV agreement being signed, 6/23/17:

Delta and Korean Air will lay the groundwork for implementing all aspects of the joint venture, subject to regulatory approvals, including:
  • Expanded codesharing in the trans-Pacific market
    • Joint sales and marketing initiatives in Asia and the United States
      • Colocation at key hubs with seamless passenger and baggage transit experience
        • Enhanced frequent flyer benefits, providing customers of both airlines the ability to earn and redeem miles on Delta's SkyMiles and Korean Air's SKYPASS programs
          • Increased belly cargo cooperation across the trans-Pacific
            • Under the agreement, the airlines will also share costs and revenues on flights within the scope of the joint venture as they work to expand service options for travelers.

It cited no date for the enhanced FF benefits to be effective.

New Delta SkyMiles mileage earn chart, including MQMs and MQDs, for Korean Air flights effective May 1, 2018. See posts #566 and #567 for details.

I am talking about today!! my flight is on 5/5, 5/11 and 5/25. 4+ hours wasted with DL and KE today... They dont seem to give us any discount on these routes, so why would we accommodate their IT issues? Companies large as DL and KE should have these kinks mostly worked out before launch this on a full scale! I am extremely disappointed. Even DM desk and codeshare desk were commenting how bad things are...

Korean MQM/MQD in Delta as of 5/1/18

Looks a lot like the chart for Tier 1 partners with first class.

We know. As poster above points out it's already being discussed in main thread about new KE JV.

To be fair, the relevant information is buried 15 pages deep in that thread and visitors not following the ins and outs of the JV negotiation would have no way of knowing it’s actually begun now. That’s why I advocated starting a separate thread now that the JV is live in the other thread - otherwise this information will get tucked away where many forum members won’t benefit from it...

Exclamation Using GUC on KE!

Looks like GUCs can now be used on KE!:

For travel on or after May 1, 2018, SkyMiles Members will receive improved earning and flying benefits when traveling with Korean Air. Members will be able to:
  • Earn more miles on Korean Air-marketed* flights.
  • Earn Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) and Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs) on Korean Air-marketed flights.
  • Use Global Upgrade Certificates on Delta-marketed, Korean Air-operated** flights. Global Upgrade Certificates are only available to Diamond Medallion Members through Choice Benefits, a Delta exclusive.
When flying with Korean Air, these improvements allow Members to earn more miles, reach Medallion Status faster, and enjoy new options to upgrade their seat. Learn more about Delta and Korean Air’s partnership.

* The marketing carrier is determined by the two letter airline code in the flight number. For example, DL2368 is marketed by Delta and KE35 is marketed by Korean Air.

**The operating carrier for a flight indicates which airline flies the plane. For example, a Korean Air-operated flight means the flight will be on Korean Air aircraft.

Three big questions:
  • What fare class does the UG book into?
  • Does ticket need to be issued on DL ticket stock, or can it be on KE ticket stock -- or either?
  • Can GUCs be applied to all Y fares? What about J fares?

Sorry, DL marketed Y/B/M fares only --

"Valid on Delta-marketed, Korean Air-operated flights for use globally on Delta's published fares booked in Y or B class to Korean Air's Z class, or booked in M class to Korean Air's O class."

Will these go to the gate? Is there a waitlist option at all or is it a must clear at booking situation?

Does anyone know if Medallion members could reserved economy seats in advance on KE marketed flights and whether upper tier members can choose preferred seats like we can on KLM?

Are there DL codeshare flight numbers available yet for KE operated intraAsia flights? Or do the GUCs just upgrade the TPAC segments?

Plenty! There have been DL flight numbers from ICN to HKG, TPE, OKA, CTS, FUK, BKK, HKT, HAN, SGN, PNH, KUL, CGK, DPS, RGN, SIN, etc. for a while already...And yes, the GUCs can be used worldwide on DL-marketed, KE-operated flights

Well, on the one hand, I'm glad that we can use GUCs. On the other hand, it seems kinda cost prohibitive for at least self-funded flyers like myself: Y, B, and M fares are generally really expensive. For those who have their employers pay for travel, this is really a good turn of events, right? (That is, unless it cannibalizes award travel in J, especially since "O" is what award travel in J books into for KE.)

No gate standby for these. Must be booked at least 24 hours before flight.

Sounds like a bargain.
