Old Delta timetables

Is there a collection of old Delta timetables, searchable online? I asked The Great Google Mind, but didn't get anywhere.

In early December 1985 I flew MIA-ATL (DC10) and ATL-SAN-ONT (727), and wanted to look up those flights and departure times. I remember the MIA-ATL flight leaving MIA pretty early, around 6 or 6:30 in the morning.

Thanks.

here are a few online sites ... most only have a handful of issues; I'm not aware of any that has an exhaustive collection though

timetableimages.com
airchive.com
departedflights.com (also has a number of OAGs, and other interesting stuff)

eBay has them come thru occasionally. Set yourself an alert.

Have you tried looking for the OAG books?

I don't remember Delta ever having any DC-10's. They did have a few MD-11's in 1996 (maybe 3). I flew a Delta MD-11 Atlanta to Frankfurt Germany and a Delta 727 onward to Athens Greece. These planes brought the Olympic torch back to Atlanta.

For a long time DL had some ATL-Florida flights on L-1011s; never DC-10s.

OK, it must've been an L1011 then. It was definitely a wide body.

I did find some OAG guides online using the links posted earlier on this thread, but nothing for early December '85.

Delta flew DC-10s after the Western Airlines acquisition.

Delta flew the DC 10 on two occasions that I recall. The first was in the early 70's, as a stopgap when there were significant delays in the delivery of the L-1011 from Lockheed. The second was during the mid-80's upon the occasion of the Western Airlines merger. The DC 10 was a mainstay of the WA fleet.

Are you sure? The Airliners.net photo database has 6 pictures of DC-10s at FLL and MIA in the early 1970s. I realize they could have come from elsewhere and this was before deregulation.

Delta had 17 MD-11s; they placed the order for the MD-11 1988, with the first delivery in 1990, and DL retired the last MD-11 on January 1, 2004. I never got to fly one one, but you used to be able to fly MD-11s on routes like ATL-MCO and ATL-LAX.

According to the Delta timetable effective November 1-December 14, 1985:

Miami-Atlanta
6:10am-7:47am DL 780 L-1011
9:20am-10:54am DL 817 727
11:05am-12:39pm DL 460 727 (SatSunOnly)
12:55pm-2:35pm DL 82 L-1011
2:25pm-4:05pm DL 738 757
6:05pm-7:43pm DL 786 DC-8
8:00pm-9:40pm DL 380 767

Atlanta-San Diego-Ontario would have been flight 423 departing ATL at 8:45am and arriving ONT at 11:13am on a 727.

This is the correct answer. http://www.deltamuseum.org/exhibits/.../douglas-dc-10

DL operated the DC-10 from 1972 to 1975 and again from 1987 to 1988.

Another site for really old (40s/50s/60s) airline timetables is www.timetableimages.com They have some old complete Delta and Northwest schedules from that era.

Excellent, thanks! So then I flew DL 780 and DL 423.

Thinking about the flying I've done since, DL 780 that time might have been my one and only L1011 ride.

And here I've been thinking for a long time I've never been in that airplane.

Neat!

Did those WA DC-10s fly in DL colors ATL-Florida?

fliesdelta Jul 26, 2014 8:07 pm

While trying to track this info down I came across many nice photos of current airlines in old liveries, and of course now defunct airlines.

Quite the trip down memory lane. I spent many an hour in Eastern flights, for example, as for a while I was flying to South America regularly. When they went out of business AA started flying those routes, so racked up many miles there.

Again, thanks for the pointers, it is appreciated.
