Such as? For MQMs sure, but other than anecdotal evidence that miles get thrown around like candy as compensation, what scheme is there that other programs don't have? Certainly not credit cards, hotels or rental cars. Not shopping portals or other retail partners. They all have those. I see this asserted periodically, but I'm just not certain upon what it is based.
In recent years, I have had: gold delta amex, platinum delta amex, reserve delta amex, platinum business delta amex, gold amex, hawaiian visa, usair barclay's, AA mastercard, and the United explorer visa. From these cards, DL certainly offers the best threshold bonuses. With two amexes in hand, I earn: 30k bonus MQMs and 30k bonus RDMS with 60k in spending on the reserve (already done) and 20k bonus MQM and 20k bonus RDMs with 50k in spending on the business platinum (almost there). I think that united offers 10k in PQM for 25k in spending and no threshold bonuses, correct? |
The OP should remember that DL miles don't currently expire (until you do), so it could make sense to keep some as an emergency stash.

Virgin. It was actually pretty simple. I found all segments effortlessly on DL's site. It seemed like the virgin inventory opened up a few days later than delta's 331. I booked all four seats on the same flight. And I went back to check and there were still more low seats! PM if/when you need help booking.
gooselee, I saw you were asking too. There is also a thread on booking Virgin Australia. I would find it and link, but I'm on my phone. |

That's really good to know. I hope rates or ability to book partners doesn't change next year. I'm hoping to book a similar trip in April 2015 for two people to travel in March 2016. Right now I have the miles but not the time to go.
