MusicProf has long since departed to constructive things like making music, so the snark here is lost on her/him. Not everyone lives their life about chasing fake plastic status on airlines, lets remember.

Dang people....cut OP a break! OP has been nothing but respectful and is just asking for opinions from the experts.

OP asked for something unreasonable and was denied. End of story.

I can see times when flaming is ok but most of the time it is unnecessary. This is one of those times (IMO).

Let's try to be a little nicer.......

Have a great 4th everybody :D

Under the theory of OP's request, every group travel organizer ought to receive the benefit of all gestures / compensation paid to groups he organizes.

OP has already thrown himself at the mercy of the thread, and apologized. chastising him in a way which has already been done upthread is piling on IMHO. Likewise, I wish I would have completed the thread before my 2nd comment as well.

Cheers

Good luck Musicprof!

I sincerely apologize.

I will also never request anything ridiculous again . . . .

First of all, no need to apologize. Surely you know that it's easy for people to criticize anonymously via the internet. Don't let internet personas ever discourage you from posting here! :)

Secondly, you would never know what's ridiculous until you try! If you would have asked for $50 and gotten it, you would have been happy. If you would have asked for $100, and received the $75 that you received, you would know that you that $75 was as high as they were going to go!

So, you tried to negotiate starting on the very high side, and it was turned down. I don't see that as ridiculous. :)

Also, while OP admits he was flabbergasted by DL's response, I think it's telling that he came to a place like FT to ask, essentially, "Was I actually asking for something unreasonable or should I continue to pursue it?"

To me, that shows that OP is very much willing to admit he just had a miscalibrated expectation, and wanted to either confirm or not before taking a next step.

This is not that dissimilar from the various, well-received threads from people who both hold status and are regular FTers asking things like "my IFE only worked for 80% of my 5 hour flight, how many RDMs should I ask for as compensation".
