What are the chances of a Skyclub in San Jose (CA)?

Delta's been adding service here, it's a very nice airport with a (closed) club just across the hall from Delta's gates.....(looks like it may have been an AA club?)

What are the chances that Delta would open a Skyclub here? It's sooooo much easier to use (or at least get to) than SFO. (If not likely, I wonder how much service they would need to have to justify it?)

Thanks

I think it'd depend on expected traffic and perhaps a strong customer base (business pax?).

I think there are other airports that could warrant an SC before San Jose, especially if there's a decent amount of mainline service.

IMHO, one can look at the daily flight count (and better, seat count) at the non-hub locations where DL has a SkyClub and see that SJC (with 20 DL and DL Connection flights on Monday) is well off the pace set by DCA/DFW/EWR/FLL/IND/JAX/MCO/MKE/MSY...

According to the SJC website:

NUMBER OF WEEKLY FLIGHTS Delta:

Atlanta 7
Los Angeles 45
Minneapolis-St. Paul 14
Salt Lake City 34
Seattle 28

total 128
I would think there is zero chance of opening a SC.

I asked several high level people at DL why there is no SC at LAS, they stated it is based on the number of DM members based in that city and International flts.

LAS has 50-60 flts per day. I did not check the latest flt schedule.

I question this thinking, as many DM's travel TO LAS. There are many "high rollers" that visit our "fair" city, as well as many coming for a convention.

The Club at SJC

There is an airport club at SJC not connected to any airline:

This outfit has a club at LAS; they also opened one in ATL Concourse F.

I would put the chances at something less than 1 in 747.

Is there a great deal of Delta metal serving SJC or is the bulk of it by a code share partner i.e. SkyWest ?
SkyWest does not operate a/the Sky Club - so a lot Delta metal presence is required ?

Tomorrow there are 19 DL flights to SJC: 4 mainline flights (1x ATL, 2x MSP, 1x SLC) and 15 Skywest flights (7x LAX, 4x SLC, 4x SEA).

I'd give the odds as between 0.00 and 0.000. It's not going to happen unless something changes, such as DL negotiating some big corporate contracts there.

I don't think Delta cares about the Delta vs Delta Connection distinction here. DFW is heavily RJ service but still has a club. Even LGA has lots of RJ service.

As much as I would like to see DL convert the old Admirals Club into a Sky Club, it will never happen. There just isn't ever going to be enough traffic to justify a club. DL like most every airline has the bulk of their Bay Area traffic at the smaller city's airport up the peninsula.

Is there an option that is below zero for San Jose getting a club?

While there has been some talk of new clubs opening, bets are much better on airports with higher numbers of daily flights. I've also heard some talk of re-opening clubs in locations where they were previously closed. Personally, I've been hoping that the BHM club that closed a decade or so ago may re-open as I spend a lot of time traveling through there. While the renovated section has better food offerings than it did a few years ago, it's still not quite up to par to most airports. Interestingly, the new airport expansion there has space marked on the map for an airline lounge, though not specific as to whom it may belong. I believe, if not mistaken, that Southwest has the most daily departures but obviously no branded lounges. Given that DL has ~10-15 or so daily departures from BHM, I think it highly unlikely that will be one unless they also look at the number of medallions/likely SC members in a particular location which may make it profitable.

I'd prefer to see some more flight options over a SC. Would love to see 2x SJC-ATL and 2x SJC-DTW

^^^ I would love to see SJC-ATL as something other than a red-eye and at least a flight to DTW a few days a week.

Heck, the airport gave VX a huge break for them to start SJC - LAX (which was very over saturated), they could give DL a nice break to start SJC - DTW. VX actually had to pay SJC back some of their incentive money because they failed to last a year on that route.

Barring delays (which really don't happen at SJC as opposed to the smaller city's city airport up the peninsula), I usually spend so little time in airport, that I don't think a lounge would add much value. If it did, I would have paid for Priority Pass (which gives access to the Club at SJC).
