While I have only flown 11 flights (connecting, domestic, international) on MU and far from an expert, I will fly them again simply because their pricing is too attractive to write them off. Do I get less comfort than when I fly DL as a PM, most certainly YES. Are their lounges due for upgrades.. YES. But for what they charge, I am willing to choose them when the schedule permits.
MU has a very attractive price/mile ratio. I took them last month, transferring twice in PVG. No problem at all. Lounges are old and outdated, but service from lounge staff was excellent. My connection departed from a bus gate and when I was asking how to get to my gate, lounge staff told me that they will bus me from the gate nearest to the lounge until the the plane. Excellent service. Miles posted within 48 hours. Would I fly MU again? Definitively yes.

I have a hard time believing pilots are smoking on the flight deck. There's more likely to be an orgy than pilots smoking on the flight deck. Sorry, but no way that is happening.

Don't pay any attention to that poster - he has zero credibility and always goes around making things up and arguing with himself (just look up on this very same page in this post, he keeps contradicting himself from one post to the next here if you scroll up a bit, being typical himself: providing entertainment to others on FT by his silly antics and completely irrational and contradictory behavior). I wouldn't be surprised if he hasn't actually stepped a foot in a plane in years (if ever); obviously he's the very opposite of sometime well traveled.

That's funny. Obviously you're being sarcastic. You really like making everyone laugh!
^
Credible as on the previous page in this thread, first saying how horrendous MU is and how he will never set foot on MU,
but then later arguing with himself and changing the tune completely,
This statement alone makes it appear that the's never set a foot on any plane, if he thinks that air quality/smoke can have an impact on the "sensitive equipment around" (if it could and if it was that sensitive, then the planes couldn't land or open the doors anywhere in China, esp. PVG, given the air quality there (so obviously he's never been anywhere in China at least), and would never be certified to fly if a bit of smoke would make the "sensitive equipment around" damaged).
It really is hilarious!

wow, that's pretty horrendous. Why in the world would Delta make a large, expensive capital investment in China Eastern? MU has some really cheap fares on JFK - PVG - NRT in J, $2600 RT. After reading that last post on the pilots smoking and the wifi constantly resetting, I don't think its worth the price to try them, not even for a $2600 J ticket.
It really is hilarious!

Just booked the China portion of trip from DTW on CE PVG-EIY-PEK on a B fare, codeshare DL. Diamond RA didn't know how to pre-select a bulkhead seat (first 6 rows of coach were blacked out). Anyone know if you can pre-select a bulkhead based on DM status or by paying for the "upgrade?"

A few comments about terminal 1 at PVG. I took Delta out of PVG terminal 1 the other week and in fact, we had to be bussed to the plane, a 747 nonetheless. However, boarding was very orderly and the MU staff made sure business class got on the bus first followed by everyone else, so it really didn't even matter.
For the lounge situation, Delta had notes handed out that apologized for the inadequate lounge facility in terminal 1. It also said that a brand new, state of the art lounge was being built and would be ready sometime later in 2016.
As for the pilots smoking, especially on a brand new 773, I actually find that hard to believe. I mean, where else are they going to smoke but in the flight deck. No way, in a brand new plane, are pilots going to smoke with all that sensitive equipment around.

I have my first experience with China Eastern coming up on Saturday when I fly DL NRT-PVG and MU PVG-DEL. Still hoping the international-to-international SkyTeam transfer goes smoothly in PVG and doesn't require immigration, claiming bags and re-checking in at the counter.
I'll report back after arriving in DEL.

Their meals have also gotten better in the last year. Plus the experience at PVG T1 has improved with recent construction and new lounge opening. Bags can now transfer between MU/FM and DL/AF/KLM (and vv) so no need to pickup up bags when transiting at PVG. (Including for transfer to domestic MU/FM flights). Also the transfer process when connecting between MU/FM international and onward to DL/AF/KLM or when connecting to international MU/FM T1 is tons better then at T2. No needing to clear immigration.

I can tell you the crew on MU578 def smoked the whole flight from LAX-PVG I will only hope the return will be No smoking. If the food was improved I can't imagine what it once was. I was beyond disgusted by everything they served outside of the fruit and Hagen Daz. Now PVG-BKK on FM was smoke free and had great service but they still serves sour swill for their meals.
