LAX

For my frequent LAX flyers. If I was to fly into LAX, assume arriving in T5 from Tampa, but need to leave via T7/8 for United Express flight is it possible to make a 1 hour connection assuming no bags to retrieve?

Thanks.

Should be no problem.

T5/6/7/8 are all connected airside. A nice tunnel walk from 5 to 6, then up the terminal to the beginning of 6 to the walkway to 7 and 8, so no need to re-clear security.

I was early for my DL flight to DTW last week so I walked from 59 to the top of 6 in about 10 - 12 minutes. Just pay attention as your walking up to the top of 6, as the turn to T7 is next to the exit to baggage claim.

Perfect thanks so much. Surprising it's cheaper for me to book my DL flights from

TPA-LAX

UA flights LAX-SBP-SFO

DL SFO-DFW-TPA

What about coming in on Delta and leaving on AF?
Plenty of time to do it but I assume AF departs from the international terminal. Is it connected airside or will we have to go through security again?

AF is actually Terminal 2...a bit of a walk or bus ride. Allow plenty of time (2 hrs min)

The challenge is getting to SBP (small regional only serviced by UA/US from SFO/LAX/PHX) then getting out of SBP to a flight that will get me to DFW the same day.

I have a dinner in SBP on 5/6 that I am arriving for earlier that day and have to be in by 2PM to make, then I can't leave my meeting on the 7th until after noon and my best choice is a 12:52 from SBP to SFO that allows me to get a SFO-SLC-DFW at 4 and into DFW same day. So I can be up for a meeting at 9AM the 8th.

I checked US and the cost since they service all those location but the cost is more then the pieced together DL/UA trip. Am I'm not a fan of UA in general so even if US is close in price my preference is flying a bulk of the trip on DL where I at least have potential at a UG and can assure I am in EC at worst.

AF uses terminal 2 (not TBIT) and you cannot make the transfer airside.

You'll have to exit T5/6 and walk or take the bus to T2. You will reclear security in T2.

Be careful if you are doing this on separate tickets though. If you miss your United flight because your Delta flight on another ticket is delayed, United may have no obligation to re-accommodate you. You may wish to ask on the UA forums.

Minimum Connection Time DL-UA in LAX is 1:10. Can't comment on the practicalities of the MCT but there are some risks even if you have carry-on only (may be forced to gate-check which will send them to the LAX baggage claim).

T5 to T2 is a shorter walk than 5 to the INT.

There is no sterile connector between T5 and TBIT. You would need to re-clear security.

AF and KLM moved ALL operations from T2 to TBIT at the end of March.

It's a 1:10 time that I have, in at 9:16 out at 10:26. I know there are risk but I don't think there is any way to ticket them together to avoid that. Other then just flying UA.

Thanks for the correction! One other reason not to fly KL/AF. I still generally detest TBIT.

:)

AF flies an A380 out of LAX. That is why I assumed they used the TBIT.
