dumb question

I think i know the answer is no, but i want to ask anyway.

Is there any way to get a paid ticket and an award ticket on the same PNR? Vacation with family and I want to use miles for the family but pay for mine in order ensure diamond for next year.

thanks for any help

Lots of people ask this. You are correct in assuming the answer is no. Fortunately you will be able to pay for your ticket and use miles (assuming availability and a sufficient balance of course) for the same flights. You will just be on separate reservations.

You can call DL and ask that the PNRs be linked.

And you can ask for whatever benefits you want for those you're flying with; whether or not you get them is up to the agent.

maybe not a dumb question but the title leaves a lot of room for improvement

Via a phone call, I've had tickets both linked and un-linked.

As a diamond, be sure to use the priority number. While wherever you get will work, with luck you'll get Chisholm and the process will be even easier.

I do this all the time. They will link the reservation when you make it. They will seat everyone next to each other. You may or may not be able to do EC. Either way choose the middle seat so if you get upg, your group can change seats easier if needed. You may have to pay baggage fees for the others in your group since it is a separate reservation. That is why I gift my wife gold.

Linking PNR's does not really do much at this point. About the only benefit is automation in case of an aircraft change; the system will attempt to seat you together.
