The Official “I Got Upgraded” Thread: JFK-LAX/SFO/SEA

Complimentary Medallion upgrades to BusinessElite on JFK-LAX/SFO/SEA routes end on Feb 28, 2014.

This thread is for those who get an upgrade on these routes on or after Mar 1, 2014.

Please share your story: flight, date, known/suspected reason for the upgrade.

It would also be helpful for people to share their experiences with attempting to redeem Global Upgrade Certificates and/or mileage upgrade awards on these routes.

For example, did your upgrade clear at time of request, 5 days before the flight, at the gate, or not at all? How long was the upgrade list at the gate, and what was your position on it?

I'm sure many will follow this thread closely starting tomorrow, 3/1. May TCON complimentary Medallion upgrades RIP.

And just as importantly, was your upgrade coded properly so you actually were on the upgrade list and had priority.

Farewell comp upgrades!

I look forward to hearing what others are seeing beginning Mar 1st:
- Does it appear many seats are being sold at the gate?
- Which fare codes are eligible for paid upgrades at the gate?
- What is the cost of an upgrade?
- How many vacant seats were in BE?
- Were there sightings of non-revs flying in BE?
- How many sulking DYKWIA DM's were spotted in Y?
- And from those flying in the BE cabin, was the experience a lot better now that the upgraders are back where they belong?

No need to ask these questions. Don't you know that the BE cabins on these flights will have only a handful of passengers enjoying their private jet-like surroundings? I learned this from the elitists who are happy to see the end of complimentary UGs on these routes. Never, ever will the inner sanctum be contaminated by non-revs or kettles who paid $200 to upgrade a $300 ticket. Trust us!

Yes, now those very special people who buy P fares do not have to worry about sitting next to refuge/trash.... They are wetting themselves in delight

I will miss these upgrades. Just booked an overnight trip next week for $3,100, lowest available coach was $400ish. I usually had great luck buying M-fares and snagging the last seat available, using same day change, if needed.

Do you receive MQD for $239? And, for 2015, do you receive MQM for $239?

Doubtful.

If you mean RDM, also doubtful. MQM earning is not changing in 2015, unless they adjust or remove class of service bonuses (but those wouldn't apply here anyway).

This might not stick around for a while. I just noticed new language (not previously announced?) in the "Same Day Standby Upgrades" section at the bottom of this page: http://www.delta.com/content/www/en_...l-changes.html

Two big changes:
1) TCON routes are now excluded from the standby upgrade program
2) Upgrade prices are now tiered depending on fare class

Surprised to see neither of these changes have been announced or noted elsewhere (unless I missed them).

Even though the T&C say the JFK tcons aren't allowed, its not surprising AT ALL to see them selling upgrades at the gate. Lets you know just how much your "elite" status means to Delta... they'd rather piss off elites who fly those tcons regularly and try to extract more money from them.
