In Janaury, I had some 45 minute waits for DM agents and considered myself to be pretty lucky, given the weather conditions. It was the two six hour plus flight delays that were bad.

Flight to SMF tomorrow was cancelled this morning. Called the Plat line and opted for the call back. Took two hours but at least I didn't have to sit on hold.

I called the Platinum line at 11:00 this morning. The recording said the wait time was 39+ minutes. I elected to wait and laid the phone down with speaker phone on. The agent came on in less than five minutes.

I've also found that DM line wait times are better than forecast on the recording.

4-Hour Callback Queue at 16:30 EST on 2/11/2014
Delta.dumb is unable to change my cancelled 2/13/2014 flight (in paid First Class), so I called Delta's 800-number. It offered the option of a call-back, I accepted, and was told it would be a four hour wait.
The system said I would not lose my place in line, so assuming that's true, people on hold should expect a 4 hour wait.

The one and only time I took that option I had called at about 7 PM CST. I got the callback at 3:30 CST the following morning.
The only issue I have with holding is that it chews up a lot of cell phone minutes.

Called about 12:30pm EST, didn't take the option, waited about 1 hour. Luckily I got someone in one of the us call centers. It was my second call of the day, first waited about an hour as well but got someone I could barely understand who had no ability to help me.
All in all, I can sympathiz because I'm sure today, tomorrow and probably Thursday are going to be really tough for those folks.
