I know this is an old question, but they seem to be doing pre-check lite "sometimes" at the skyway checkpoint with yellow cards to send you through the walk-through with your shoes on. Last time I showed up the skyway checkpoint was closed at 5:00PM on a friday though, thought that was odd.

I'll have to try the all elites lane, sounds like it comes out close to ike's, which is normally where I am heading if I don't use the skyway checkpoint.

I haven't been there in a while, but in the past, hours were posted for the skyway checkpoint on a permanent looking sign in the area. I seem to remember that it closed around 7-8 pm most days, but I'm not sure.

MSP is my main airport and since I am SM no chance of getting TSA Pre-Check. Based on my coworkers with GM that is also unlikely. I have learned to just go to Gate 5 as a SM and use the Priority line there. It results in 5-10 minutes max on getting through the line. Now the downside to some it it puts you by Terminal C so its a walk to E&F. I have become so accustomed to the taking of shoes and belts I fly through security. My flights very on departures most are 7AM flights or 7PM flights. I don't experience midday too often. I do watch the TSA Pre Check lines and noticed I get through usually quicker because more and more people are doing TSA Pre-Check.

Would it make sense for you to get GE for precheck as well as quick CBP clearing on international trips?

As MSPeconomist said, you could get GE/Nexus/Pre by signing up and paying the fee. I have also noticed that my mother, general member and no trusted traveler number, has been getting pre check pretty frequently through Delta. Do you have all of your secure flight data saved in your DL profile?

Since turning Gold the middle of last year, I have been 100% pre-check at MSP. And every time I travel with colleagues who are Silver or Gold, they also get pre-check.

Perhaps your Traveler information does not match your SkyMiles profile? I called Delta and had them change my name in SkyMiles to match my Passport full name. I was Silver at the time. My next trip I got pre-check for the first time.

They shortened the hours at that checkpoint now. 5:30-1:30 M-F only. :-(

That really sucks. I'm always carryon in MSP so it was nice to go right through after returning the rental. Unless I am going to Ike's or Axel's, then I would take the tram up.

MSP actually has really good food, the Axel's walleye tacos are great.

Ouch. That's a huge cutback.

Plus, it discourages use of light rail to get to the airport since it's so convenient to enter airside at the skyway checkpoint on your way up and toward the terminal from the light rail station.

It's also super convenient if you're returning a rental car onsite or if you're forced to park toward the back of the general parking ramps.

In fact, I'm shocked that TSA would cut the hours at this checkpoint because it's where many crew and airport employees enter, including all of them using public transportation to the airport.

Security between G and C terminals is your secret at MSP. I've given up on the PC line at MSP.

Someone remind me: Before 9/11 were there elite security lines? I never had status in those years. At MSP in particular, the checkpoints were further down in each terminal, and the whole retail area was pre-security, with security being something you did right before your flight...

My memory is that security was basically quick for everyone because nobody had to take off their shoes, deal with liquids, etc. I wonder if TSA's goal is to use pre-check to get back to a model where everyone moves quickly through security?

The stated goal is to get more people into Pre√ so that the TSA can focus on those requiring more screening. But the net effect is what you said.

thanks:)

But were there even first class lines? Was there a shared line for employees and F pax?

Amen to that. TSA is too busy giving randoms Pre-Check (PC) who clog up the line because they can't follow directions about NOT removing shows, jackets, laptops, etc.

Meanwhile, peeps like me who aren't going to pay the gov't (TSA or CBP extortion) any money to have GE or paid PC, only get PC about 70-80% of the time. But that's ok, I just opt out every time I don't get PC. Quid pro quo.

TSA screening is a joke anyway. I've seen better pat downs at a rave.

I usually entered directly from the (red) parking ramp, near the FastTrack gates. One line there but I rarely even had to wait for one person.

MSP

Lots of elites here; former NW headquarters. Pre-check is great at other airports. Yesterday at DCA the lines were long but only 2 of us in pre-check. A 2 minute clip through and to the SC.
