Silver Medallion Package

One of my family made SM in December and just received her "Credentials" which are for 2014. The package did not contain any drink coupons. Assume this is just another "down grade" of SM?

Pretty sure Silver have never received HOOU coupons. My wife did not get any when she hit Silver a couple years (she is now Gold and did get HOOU's after hitting that).

Silver hasn't received HOOU coupons for years (or ever). Only Gold and above...

Silvers don't get HOOUs at all - not in the credentials package, and not on boarding passes if you're not upgraded.

It's one of the reasons I went for Gold...

No drink coupons for FOs. I never even got luggage tags. I was really looking forward to running around with those on my carryon. I just got my GM packet (finallyyyyyy...), but I think there's just something more charming about proudly displaying FO tags.

I did get my luggage tags last year. Don't care too much about the absent drink coupon though.
And FO is better than nothing. At least you can pick preferred seats and get good treatment during IRROPS.

I got FO luggage tags last year, but they aren't particularly useful. My name wasn't on them. Isn't that the real point of luggage tags--so they know who the luggage belongs to?

No. The point is to make you feel special so you will spend even more money with DL.

I received a packet my first year of FO qualification. No HOOU coupons, as expected. I did get the tags with my SM number on them, though. I didn't get a packet last year, however.

I'm Silver. I got an upgrade already this year. Plus in some airports (why not all I don't know) Silver counts as "elite" for the TSA lines. And free exit row seats too.

Yeah you don't get free drinks or free Crown Room access and you get fewer upgrades. That's kind of the point though. If Silvers got everything Golds got, what would be the point of getting gold?

I am so annoyed by your attitutde though...not about Delta, but about the entitlement mentality. I **DESERVE** free drinks. Why? No reason, just because I'm me and I'm special. You think Silver sucks? Don't fly Delta. Simple solution to a simple problem.

My GM tags that just showed up don't have any identifiers, as far as I can see (granted, they're still in the sheet with my GM card, so I haven't looked to see if there's anything on the back; haven't traveled yet this year, so no reason to put them on my bags yet, since I use my laptop bag for school as well). I thought the point was to advertise to the world who you are? GMs who aren't really aware of what GM means, so they walk around like they're the king of the world, the PMs who are slightly aware that they're almost something, and the DMs with the metal cowbell tags that announce to everyone "click clack I'm a DM click clack" with each step.

But seriously, I really wanted the FO tags so that when I get UGs as a GM, or when I buy G and A fares (I often do, when reasonable), I can get all kinds of glances.

As for benefits of FO, they are definitely advantageous. This is coming from someone who started the FF game cold turkey with DL. Preferred seating, occasional upgrades (happened often enough to keep me happy), discounted EC (a very nice perk), being recognized as the bread crust of a ham sandwich in the eyes of DL, and occasional access to SP baggage drop. It's not always blatantly advertised, but it's there. Under FB elite, DM, PM, and GM, there is FB and FO in smaller print. When I was FO, I even got in the habit of leaving my old luggage tracking tag on if I had the yellow SP tag, because I would walk in, an agent would ask "Sky Priority?" and I would say "No, just a Silver." And more often than not, they ushered me to the SP line, even when it didn't list FOs on the chart.

At least some Silvers used to get some coupons, but those were "enhanced" away quite some years ago IIRC.

Just another way in which the real new elite levels appear.

When they added DM and lowered PM to 75K, what they really did was bump all the elite tiers up by 25K and rename them:

Old PM (100K) is now DM (125K): club access
Old GM (50K) is now PM (75K): waived redeposit fees
Old FO (25K) is now GM (50K): Sky Priority replacing the old Medallion lines
...and new FO is "slightly better than nothing", with some of the benefits available to anyone with a DL AmEx card.

This thread is making me feel bad about dropping back to FO for 2014. At least they let you keep GM until Feb 2014, in the meantime the plan is to piggyback off the rollover from last year and hit GM again relatively quickly. No $1,000 MQM purchase at the end of the year needed...
