DL2903 JFK-SAT in CRJ900?

Hi!

I will be flying JFK-SAT on Jan 9. Was flying that route in the past in an Airbus 320. Now the upcoming flight will be in a CRJ900. Well, normally I dont mind the CRJ but for an almost 5h flight? Also, I noticed a minor detail. According to the Delta App: Miles flown: 1548 / Aircraft Range: 1496 miles... Will it get REALLY quiet somewhere just around Dallas? lol

Does anyone have experience when that planes range is maxed out? I am really wondering whats happening when there is a slight diversion due to bad weather... Would be a pain to make an extra stop to refuel :-)

CRJ900 LR is good for 1800nm. Still seems like it's cutting it pretty close. But, the airlines know their business and wouldn't assign a plane that didn't match the flight.

Don't trust Delta's aircraft specs. There are so many errors. You would think an airline would know the capabilities of their aircraft.

FlightAware shows JFK/SAT as 3 hours & 31 minutes on an A320.

I've never heard of them using a regional for that long of a flight. I'm guessing its a mistake, but please report back on it.

That said, CRJ-900 in F is one of my favorites. Restroom and FA shared between only 9 people give it a private jet feel, and the seats are very comfortable.

Yup, it's on the schedule!

. . . . . besides, surely you know that Delta.com doesn't make misteaks.

A similar thread ran earlier this year when I posted about flying a CRJ from SLC to Cabo:
CRJs going SLC to Mexico: big route for a small plane?

There's some interesting discussion and great insight about routes and range. I found it pretty surprising to learn where they're sending these buggers!

At least it's not as bad as the CRJ service between ATL and LAX...

F has 12 seats on a 900 (700 has 9 but only 1 rest room in the back)
I regularly fly the IAH -LGA route on an EMB170 (2 restrooms and 9F and it's fine). I did have a flight time of over 4 hours a few times due to headwinds.

I guess Flightaware shows "real" flight time, wheels up / wheels down, as the Delta app shows "flight" time as doors close / doors open... including a nice wait at the tarmac

I fly this direct JFK-SAT route 6 or 7 times a year. Most of the year they do use the Airbus, but in January/February they frequently use a smaller aircraft. Sometimes it has been the CRJ, and sometimes (although I haven't seen it in a while) they use the Embraer.

I remember doing JFK-AUS on a CRJ-900 a few times. Once they had to refuel in CVG because of strong headwinds. Then the crew timed out in CVG so we were stranded there at midnight. My fellow pax were not happy.
