DL172 engine failure

Dl172 departing MNL on 11/23 experienced an engine failure on the outside starboard engine shortly after take and returns safely to MNL Flight was canceled and passengers were rebooked on new flights.

It seems like the 744 fleet has a below average mean distance between failures. I'm currently waiting on a delayed DL172 (NRT-JFK) which is being flown by equipment arriving late from TPE, not MNL, today.

Probably cascaded over from the 744 that had the engine failure. Not sure if they plan to fix it in MNL or Singapore. I know DL does heavy maintenance at both SIN and MNL.

I've never seen NW/DL 747s in SIN. PMNW contracted for a lot of A330 work to be done in Singapore.

Pretty sure all the refurbishments done to the entire 744 fleet were done in SIN. Had a DL pilot, tell me once when talking on board our flight out of MNL that DL does a lot,of its heavy maintenance in MNL and SIN.

DL 172/3 and 629/630 are the two 74S which overnight in MNL. The overnight time is enough for most maintenance work. I think DL circulates their 74S to MNL for these scheduled maintenance.

In 15 yrs and 70+ flights on the 744/S out of MNL I never had a failure, I guess I am due for one soon. :P

Someone help me find a piece of wood!!!

PMNW used to regularly fly 747s between NRT-SIN-NRT, granted they were 742s...

Yeah, been on those -200s to SIN. In fact if I remember correctly wasn't one of the routes from Osaka and not NRT?

Oh, come on! Don't let company-wide dispatch reliability facts get in the way of some FT anecdotal observations.

I can't say the same for other NW/DL flights.
Just pass me that piece of wood, please!

I note that this is the second thread regarding the 747 fleet having a mechanical issue. Seems like a case of bad timing...

I suppose if one dislikes flying on old planes, they should carefully consider which airline they do business with (DL may not be for you!)

Not sure about the Osaka-SIN route, however did the NRT-SIN-NRT on the 742s upstairs a few times.

Machines break. Old or new.

I look forward to your posting company-wide dispatch reliability figures, broken down by equipment type and year. Also, please post for major US competition. Thanks!
