Yes, I would highly recommend this. The JT8D makes the most beautiful sounds of any jet engine.

Those of us that are legacy NWA customers know they called them "diesel nines" as they were gas guzzlers.

Interesting. I had no known that there are some disabled fuel tanks on the DC9s.

Although, when you say the planes are headed for "storage" I assume that is mostly a euphemism for "scrapping" and parts scavenging, or are they really being stored for possible future use. I can understand the sentiment in your word choice, of course, so please don't take this as an attack. (I'm just curious.)

We know that there is a lot of interest, and we expect the most updated schedule to be published during the first week of December.

ETA: Welcome to FT!
I knew DL's range sounded short. When DL was running them ROC-ATL last Summer I looked it up.

Please for the love of god don't change the date! There are at least a dozen of us who have booked it (and not cheap either!).

The ticket is out of my price range...but I will try (and almost assuredly fail) to non rev on it. I hope to at least go and see the festivities at the gate in MSP.

New schedule has been loaded for this flight, including earlier times and change of routing.

0725 ATL
0828 ORD
0908 ORD
1129 DTW
1215 DTW (flight 1965)
1315 MSP
1620 MSP (flight 2014)
1946 ATL

There are still flights operating at the times the originally-scheduled victory lap was, but now those are other aircraft like M90 and 738. Hopefully people who booked those will be able to switch over to the new D95 flights without issue. No sense in Delta getting a PR black eye over something which should be a positive. Heck, people willing to shell out money for an unnecessary flight in January just to get on the last DC9 flight should be rewarded rather than feel jerked around. So hopefully this can be handled cleanly to everyone's satisfaction.

Personally I'm quite disappointed it's now flying through ORD instead of MKE, but at least I had not pulled the trigger to get on the last D95 MKE-DTW flight yet. For me I'd be asking for a refund (not just a flight time change) but it's not an issue for me.

Thanks for posting the change! I called Delta earlier this morning, and they were able to switch me for no fee after the agent got approval from the supervisor.

Debating if it is worth missing a day of work and 50,000-80,000 miles to do (LGA/JFK)-DTW-MSP-ATL-(LGA/JFK) so I can get on the last 2 DC-9 flights

Well, I'd transfer my ticket on the last D95 flight for MKE-DTW to you if it were possible. It's actually a ticket for MKE-DTW-MCO on Jan 5th. I paid a whopping $76.80 for it. I'lll probably abandon it since I'm now on flight 2014 and I hadn't really figured out how to get to MKE on the cheap yet (was thinking of taking Amtrak).

Talking Re-booked dl 2014 1/6/13

I changed my itinerary so that I'm booked again on DL 2014 on 1/6/13 in F class.

Does anyone know what the dinner has looked like lately on this flight? Shall we expect any surprises in catering?

I will miss the DC-9s.
The "nostalgia" side of me is sad to see these planes finally retired.

On a recent trip to St Simon's Island, I was supposed to fly into BQK, but I changed it to SAV so that I could have one final ride on the old bird.

I won't be able to make the final DC-9 flight (I'll be on my way to HKG), so cheers to all of you who will be on the final flight. Have fun. I hope that some of you will be able to post some photos.

On my final DC-9 flight. Sitting at the gate in ATL heading to CHS. I actually booked this as a mileage run to get silver again/hitch a ride on a 9 since I haven't been on one since I was a kid. Pretty excited!
