Does DL overbook domestic F?
I'm on a flight next Saturday (LAX to a DL hub).
Seat map (both on the DL app and on ExpertFlyer) shows 7 unassigned F seats. However, ExpertFlyer lists the flight as F8. Does DL overbook domestic F? Greg |
There are reports of ITNL BE being overbooked, so if that is the case, it wouldn't surprise me if they overbook F.
Also could be they always block off a seat for a FAM, just in case (this is just a W.A.G.) |
Yes they do.
I purchased a day-before-departure FC ticket in 2010 and they downgraded me at the gate to a coach seat and refunded some of my money. Flight was from some small city in SD to PDX through MSP. I was shocked. |
Yes, however based on some anecdotal points it sounds like DL may be getting over-aggressive on the BE/F oversell. Will have to monitor this and see if it becomes a trend or is just an anomaly.

It may happen from time to time but generally the answer is no.
Beyond that, the market isn't such that it would happen naturally anyway....at least very often. |
Domestic F oversell happened to me. I purchased an A or P fare (I realize, technically not F) around last Christmas, BWI-DTW, and I got a call from DL customer service about a week later saying the F cabin was oversold. I was offered a $300 voucher and a coach seat on the same flight or a move to another flight.
This was a true win for this DL flyer as I asked to be swapped to DCA-DTW (-DCA) and the agent was able to accommodate my request and I got to keep the $300 voucher. |
They used to not oversell F, but these days I've seen quite a few instances of that.
