I only need ~1400 MQMs right now. Any ideas on how to cheaply achieve this? I'm based out of NYC and the cheapest mileage runs I see are around $208. I suppose that's not a terrible price, but some of you might have a better idea.

Frankly, I would recommend doing the MR at that price. I doubt prices will get much cheaper since there's only a few weeks left of eligible flying and for the most part, deeply-discounted advance purchase fares for flights prior to 31 December will begin to disappear shortly. At some point, SkyClub membership was coming with a 1500 MQM promo but I don't see that going on right now. And considering last year that 2500 MQMs were $395, I'd consider the $208 for a 1400 MQM mileage run at this point in the year to be a decent deal, especially since you didn't get the RDMs when buying the MQM promo - just the MQMs.

If there is a weekend (or two night trip) you want to take for fun that is 1150 miles, you could do that and stay at a Hilton property for the other 250 MQM's with their promo as well.

Also, look at FCM short flights. If you can find a cheap S, A or P fare flight, ANY delta flight will get you 1,500 MQM's with the 50% bonus.

$208 doesn't sound bad at all to a hub captive.

Thanks for all of the replies. I just booked a NYC-MSY same-day flight for $198. I'll keep an eye open during the 24 hour cancellation period for a better deal, but I'm happy with this.

Thanks...I saw this, but was worried a winter storm could strand me in one of those cities and throw everything off. Anyone have experience with that? My current JFK-MSY is nonstop.

In the winter, it's always a risk, but many airports, including MSP and DTW, tend to operate pretty well in most winter weather.

As does SLC but it looks like the OP's biggest concern will be the originating airport, JFK. Always hit or miss during the winter. Good to have a Plan B just in case.

Right...the risk we run by pushing for status late in the year.

If there are irrops and one is routed differently, against their desire, can ORC still be awarded? In some ways, perhaps a storm saves time and BIS miles?

Yes, I believe it can - just a matter of requesting ORC.

The beginning of December has come and gone, with no word from Delta about selling MQMs. Is it possible they're going to forego the money grab this year?
