2013 - Will Delta Sell Medallion Qualifcation Miles (MQM)? The Definitive Thread

I'm thinking the same, for sure a top up of 2k or 4k will surely be more then the 10 cent mark. Feeling like I will not only get a cheaper mqm cost booking the flight, but also snag a few cocktails and figure that into a reduced cost.

Should they come in way cheaper there is always rollover....

Agents have been wrong before...

When I've talked to the DM desk I have not asked because I've been on rollover for quite awhile.

When I was talking to the Plat desk and she was helping me SDC a couple of flights (and saved me about $800), at the end of the call she did the usual "thank you for being a Platinum member.." and I joked with her about hopefully remaining Plat next year and she said, "well, you could apply for the Reserve card or buy MQMs at the end of the year if you know you're going to run short." And I said "Yes, I will probably buy if it's made available again." She responded with "Oh, it will. In fact, I would be looking for it in the next couple of weeks." (She told me this on Nov 11th)

This agent sounded very matter of fact as though she had just gotten some internal memo on it or something. And she did say she was actually Diamond desk, which floods over to the Plat line as needed. She was spot on with the other advice she gave me as well. Saved me $800 b/c I was actually calling in to buy an upgrade to FC and she insisted I SDC to a flight leaving an hour later b/c I would 90% chance get a comp upgrade on that one (which I did). We had a pretty lengthy phone call. I remember her saying she's worked at Delta for 12 yrs (out of SLC). She was by FAR the best rep I've ever spoken to in the past 5 yrs I've flown Delta exclusively. I even gave her the code# for one of the "Job Well Done" certificates I had from this year.

2013 - Will Delta Sell Medallion Qualifcation Miles (MQM)? The Definitive Thread

Well I just decided to bite the bullet and do a First Class run out of MKE. Delta waited too long for me to announce so now instead of free money they at least need to serve me dinner and a few cocktails. For those still waiting best wishes that your MQM Santa comes through.

Ah yes, on that day there will be MQMs available "for the vast majority of users." Or something like that

If Delta offers the ability to purchase MQMs on 12/1 - and if I purchase ~5k to make platinum and then fly a few more flights in December putting me well over the 75k MQM total will the purchased 5k roll over or is it completely lost? As it stands I would like a head start on Diamond for next year. I'm not worried about the MQDs as most of my flights are short notice and more expensive fares. I already have enough flights booked to get me to 87k by year end.

In the past, purchased MQMs could roll over. In fact, someone who didn't need the MQMs could nevertheless purchase them for the rollover, but this wouldn't be a good deal as they tend to sell for ten cents or more per MQM.

Dec. 3--from a very nice, chatty DM rep. I know they can be wrong, but that's the word he's been given.

Mqm purchase is definitely coming this week. It should be announced on Monday. No other specifics as to cost. I am guessing it will be more expensive than in the past. I asked a source and just got a polite "smile" who said can't say anything else.

If this doesn't happen soon I am going to have to book a flight to SEA to do a couple loops with double MQM's. Does Delta get anything out of putting this off until December for an announcement?

Yeah, but Delta actually makes more money selling the MQMs.

Easy money.

Does anyone know if they will sell segments? My current projection is that I will end up about 38k short of DM by MQMs, but only 2 segments short. I'm looking into a segment run (I already booked one for 12/31, but now have to book another - which is the topic of another thread), but would much rather buy the segments.

Historically speaking, no they won't. Who knows what will happen, bit they've not done this in the past.
