Technical issue with Complimentary Upgrade request

I received this email today and wondered if it influenced my recent trip (11/3-11/6). I'm Plat and have been receiving most upgrades before checking in but I wasn't in F on any of my legs to ORD (PBI-ATL-ORD).

-Email from DL:

We've resolved a technical issue with Complimentary Upgrade requests, but would like to confirm your preference.

Your reservation, XXXXXX, has been adjusted and now indicates that you are requesting an upgrade for your flight(s). Any future reservations, which may experience this technical issue, will also be adjusted to reflect an upgrade request. If you do not want an upgrade request on your flight(s), please contact Reservations at the phone number listed on the back of your Medallion® card.

Please visit the My Trips page at delta.com to view the upgrade status for your future flight(s). If your upgrade status displays "Upgrade Requested", you have successfully requested an upgrade for your flight and no further action is necessary for your upgrade to be processed.

We apologize for any inconvenience and look forward to seeing you on board soon.

I wonder if this had to do with the issues where lots of pax were reporting their upgrade would get un-requested.

Yea... Got the same email - and ironically,y the flights are still in 'upgrade eligible' status. <3 DL IT

still occurring..

Is this still happening to anyone but me? I've booked 4 tix in the last week and I had to call to request the upgrade on every one of them. They keep booking with "upgrade eligible". Any quick fixes?

This just happened to me as well, except I never received any email about it. Family (all non-status) is planning a trip during the holidays. We're all on the same reservation, and after the flights were booked and I checked the trip in My Trips, it lists us all and our seat assignments, but no "Upgrade Requested." I currently have 5 other trips in My Trips in which I am the only passenger, and they all say Upgrade Requested. Time to make a call to the medallion line...

This is the way it is supposed to be. Since Medallions can request companion upgrades for only one non-status passenger, PNRs with multiple non-status passengers will not automatically include upgrade requests. If you want to request an upgrade for yourself (as well as up to one companion), you will need to split the PNR first.

Hey, thanks! That's good to know. They're non-status. In fact, they're also not even sky miles members, just me. If I split the PNR, do they still get free bags and sky priority? If I request the upgrade, I would only want it to be me (and if by some miracle I scored the UG, I would give it to my mother, since my family is traveling with me and she's the breadwinner who worked hard to pay for our vacation). But if splitting the PNR would result in them losing those benefits, I wouldn't want to throw that all away just for the chance to maybe get an upgrade.

Most agents will still allow non-status companions on a separate PNR to check bags for free and use the Sky Priority lane as long as you explain that they are with you.

The risk of splitting the PNR is around potentially not getting some of the benefits to carry-over that would otherwise be automatic. e.g., party being kept together in the event of IRROPS, bags, Sky Priority, selection of EC seats at the same cost as the OP, etc.

Right. And since it's a vacation with my family during the holidays, going through some big airports like LAS and ATL, if I had to choose between getting SP, free bags, being together in the event of a problem vs. splitting the PNR just to get on an upgrade list (that I might not even get), I would definitely choose the former. I'll play the agent roulette game and see what they say.
