RDU-GRU(Brazil) help...

Can somebody recommend the best routing for this to give me a shot at using SWU's for travel 11/22-12/2 or 12/3? Does it make sense to use all delta metal or try to use a Partner?
Thanks,
Live1

Which partner would get you from RDU to GRU?

First of all, if you are talking 2013, I think you are SOL as to departing on 10/22 as it's 10/27. You may have already missed that flight.

However, I think DL metal is your only option? Maybe Aerolineas Argentinas or Aeromexico (through MEX)? I don't think those will either improve your experience nor your possibilities for upgrade, though. Plus, Aeromexico in FC/BE in my experience is not any better than domestic FC in the US as far as the seats go.

Looks like you can go through ATL or DTW on DL.

As to SWUs and availability, I don't think anyone but Delta can tell you that anymore, as they removed that ability from ExpertFlyer a week or two ago. You'll have to call and ask.

You can still use ExpertFlyer to look at OP (SWU redemption) availability.

I'm not sure what date you meant for the outbound, but 12/2 GRU-ATL is OP 9, 12/3 is 0.

Go through DTW or JFK.

You can only use your SWUs on DL and sometimes on KLM. Your best bet is to get a subscription to EF, choose the dates your looking for, and then set alerts so EF will alert you when OP opens up on your desired dates. Look on DL.com for all possible routings and then search EF for OP from one of DL hubs instead of RDU, then work backwards to find RP from RDU to the DL hub. Good luck.

Those dates are going to be expensive right now and upgrades will be waitlisted.

M fares are around $3,900 and offered only on three stop routings on the outbound.
B fares are around $4,200 and available with one stop itineraries on the outbound.

Detroit will give you the best chance of clearing the upgrade both directions.
