In a few hours, you will begin to notice some wording changes on delta.com as you access various areas of the site. Tomorrow morning you will see the following update on the SkyMiles News & Updates page:
"New Names For Award Levels"
To clarify our Award Travel chart, weve updated the Award level names to Saver, Standard and Peak from Low, Medium and High, respectively. Please note that the change of names for the Award levels does not indicate changes with the program rules or mileage redemption at this time. Visit our Award Travel page to learn more about using miles for an Award Ticket."
While some may speculate that this change is more than a wording change, we'd like to be very clear that this is only a modification to the way we describe Award levels. It is not a change to the levels themselves.
We hope this is a helpful change for you and the rest of our SkyMiles members.

At first STANDARD sounds like it's more honest...except of course it sets up DL to say "our standard" is 10K miles less than UA's..... rolleyes...
Actually this would be a great time to introduce one-way awards if only because even when planning a round trip, it would be possible to snag half of the round trip at a time when there is availability and keep checking on the other half, since availability can be so hit and miss (mostly miss).

The traditional media care about one thing and one thing only - viewership - and thus runs stories it thinks will attract attention. What better story than one that has already demonstrated it can attract the attention of millions? Social media and traditional media don't operate in vacuums.

I think people need to let things go.
And I think the notion of "loyalty" is entirely one-sided when used by most FTers. "Loyalty" in the FT context means that DL can never charge more (money or miles), never adjust services (e.g. SkyClub), never have higher loads, never try to sell an FC seat, basically never change. And for all of this, FTers offer to pay the same price for their seat as Joe Smith next door. And then get upset when DL says: "why are we catering to a 'loyalty' that provides no benefit to us.

We are willing to pay more for that airline when the competition charges less on an identical route.
Many of us have been paying higher fares, too.
We also redeem and recommend others to fly those airlines.

Medallion levels Renamed
In a few hours, you will begin to notice some wording changes on delta.com as you access various areas of the site. Tomorrow morning you will see the following update on the SkyMiles News & Updates page:
"New Names For Medallion Levels"
To clarify our Award Travel chart, we’ve updated the Medallion level names to Tin, Brass, Nickel and Zirconium from Siver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond, respectively. Please note that the change of names for the Medallion levels does not indicate changes with the program rules or privileges at this time. Visit our SkyMiles page to learn more about using the Medallion levels and SkyMiles."
While some may speculate that this change is more than a wording change, we'd like to be very clear that this is only a modification to the way we describe Medallion levels. It is not a change to the levels themselves.

I have to believe that they're going to improve award availability sometime soon. They are ABSOLUTELY losing business because of how few seats they have, both on the credit card side and on the flying side.

Tongue in cheek right? As we all know they are at record load factors. I like your humor.

Illogical nonsense.
Unless you are the single most unlucky person in the world, then you cannot possibly pay more over any significant span of time to stay "loyal". If DL sold tickets consistently for more than the competition, then they would either never fill the plane or have a product that even non-elites will pay a premium for. Either way, your "loyalty" can't possibly drive more revenue.

It shouldn't be surprising to anyone that DL gets laughed off the stage the half-dozen times a year it bothers to show up. You want to see a better example of how to engage on FT, head over to the SPG forum, or even the UA forum (and it's not like people in the UA forum have been thrilled about the direction of their program either).
I know SPG used Accenture to improve their app/social media/website representation, so it wouldn't be so farfetched that they have externals running the show as well. The majority of social media response is out sourced to firms specializing in this and PR.
