Choice benefit issue

Choice benefit issue
Trying to gift status to someone to extend their status...they are currently at that status level until 2/2014...trying to extend their status to 2/2015...do I have to wait until their status is expiring in 2/14? Getting this message when trying to gift
"The companion you have selected for your 2014 Choice Benefit is not eligible for this gift either because they are already the tier level you are gifting or a problem exists with their account. Please validate the account information with the companion, select a different companion or select a different benefit option."
