ATL-JFK on 6/29, checked bag woes

Just wondering if anyone else was on this flight.
My wife and I were on the 6/29 flight from ATL to JFK (9:45pm to 11:57pm)

The flight was pretty full but overall was a great flight.
Smooth flying (most important to me, rather be a little late than deal with turbulence), on time - actually a little early. Landed around 11:45pm.

Got to the baggage area shortly afterwards.

First thing I noticed, a ton of people standing around
Only 2 carousels, the one of the left had 3 Virgin Atlantic flights listed. The one of the right had a flight from Las Vegas listed, and was not moving and had bags on it.

I walked over to the Delta office and noticed a lot of bags there (is that normal?) asked the agent: "Can you tell me which carousel the bags from the ATL flight will come out on?"
Was told - "look at the board, when the bags come out, the board will say"

Wait for 30 minutes, and noticed other ATL passengers walking around trying to find out whether there were other carousels in other parts of the building.

Followed a group back to the office at 12:50am and they were asking for a status.
The agent asked for a ticket from passenger #1 and looked up the bag and said the bag was still on the plane. She said "a bin was forgotten"

She tried calling the ramp, but there was no answer. She tried calling specific people, but no answer.
I said - "Its not that only a few bags were forgotten, NO bags from ATL ever came out, and the board was never updated, ATL was never listed on the board, and all the passengers are still waiting, so its not like only 1 bin of bags was forgotten"
She said something about "TOS (or something, didnt hear) doesnt have access to update boards"

By this point, people were getting mad.

Especially when the agent said to passenger #1: "give me your address, I will have your bags delivered"
I then said "we're going to give you our addresses and the bags will be delivered?"
She said - "First, line up to the left, and No, only him, I am leaving after getting his information"

Needless to say the passengers in the office got upset at that.
But I just got on line behind passenger #1, while everyone was crowding around the desk. I figure I'll let them get upset, while I hold my place on line.

All of a sudden a kid comes running into the office to tell his dad that their bags were coming out.
I went out, and sure enough the ATL bags were coming onto the carousel over an hour after the flight landed.
I got my bag and left...the board still never had the ATL flight listed, only Las Vegas.

Wow. That's crazy!

I would definitely send a succinct comment into DL via DL.com.

Send a complaint to DL. It should not take over an hour to get bags.

I did send them a comment yesterday morning.
I didn't go into as much detail as my post. (didn't give the quotes)

Just told them my flight # and the fact that it took over an hour for our bags to come out, and that the board never updated.

No reply yet, oh well.

I just wanted to discuss it (wife doesn't care to talk about travel stories)
lol

IMO the complaint should also be about the agent's behavior toward customers.

before I got a chance to send in a followup email to Delta, they replied.

They apologized and gave me 3,700 points, lol.

I wonder how they came up with that number.
My OCD-ness wonders why its not a 3,000 or 3,500 or 4,000.
3,700 seems so random.

If A=1, B=2, etc.
"JFK Bag" = 37
100 miles per unit?

If so, how much for "International Flight Cancellation"?

I know you were not on an international flight, but it could have been 3,000 Euro points = 3,700 U.S. points.

The slogan was "We have your back." The new amended slogan is "We have your bag, but we're not giving it back."
