Business Class to AMS: Which metal/equipment?
I have several options on a flight from ATL-AMS. I'd be interested in your collective wisdom regarding biz seating in among the following choices:
KL A330-300
DL A330-300
AF 777-300ER
KL 747 (mixed--not sure what that means)
Are any of these "must avoid"--E.g.--the flight attendants will poke you with sharp sticks the entire journey, the seats only recline forward (to save space), etc?
Thanks in advance for your insights...

Once the 333s/332s are re-configured with lie-flat--by summer 2014--those look like they will be very nice.

Well, it's basically the same seat on the KL aircraft, unless lucky enough to catch the first few 747s coming into service with the flat bed seats. (74M, BTW, is the 747 "combi" which removes some seating in favor of more cargo.) I certainly wouldn't connect via CDG on AF's ski slopes either. If a non-stop is desired, not much difference between DL and KL, although the upper deck on the 747 is a nice ride even with angled flat. I'd second taking the 767 to LHR and connecting over to AMS that way.

If you're transferring to AMS, just follow Flight Connections within T4 and use the shower facilities in the T4 SkyTeam lounge.

The only thing about this is I don't think the lie-flat is guaranteed on a DTW to AMS route, like it is flying into LHR. A couple years back, my wife was going to connect through DTW to AMS on a 747--to experience the upper deck (and avoid the 333 direct from ATL). Then after she had booked, they changed it to a 333 out of DTW. Luckily they switched her to the direct flight from ATL, since both were going to be 333s. This was before DL had lie-flats--at least to anywhere in Europe.
The Sky Club at T4 at LHR is very nice, if you decide on that option.

The KL 747 combi (flown ex-JFK) upperdeck is quiet and the service was nice. There is a storage bin next to the window seats. However, the upperdeck appeared to have much smaller OH bins. Many in the upper deck had to store bags in an area behind the stairs leading to the lower deck. Had to wait for the bags to be pulled out.
Hope this helps.

+1 on the Delft houses. I also find the KLM blue to be a particularly soothing hue. Of course, I'm also a Carolina fan...
I'll take a closer look at the LHR and DTW options. The KLM 747 is out of ORD, which isn't really optimal late summer.

I'm not sure I would even fool with connecting. I'd just take the ORD-AMS on the 747 combi upper level. If I recall correctly it's an overnight flight, so just book a seat in the nose to get some sleep.
