I was booked on HNL-NRT but they swapped the 747 timing and I got placed onto the 767. Unfortunately they wouldn't allow me to change to the 747 because the flight timing change was minimal and there was no Low available.
If you did HUACA, DL should have been able to help you out there, as it is their own flights and they can make the inventory available -- if they want to.

But anyhow, the flight to KIX is a bit longer than to NRT, so you'll have more time to enjoy the UD of the 747. Enjoy!

It will actually work out quite well as I was planning on spending 5 nights on my friend's couch in Tokyo. Flying into KIX gives me an excuse to a) see a different city for a day and b) spend one less night on the couch

If you have the time, a lot to see and do around Kansai: the Osaka Bay Area metro region alone is four major cities - Osaka, Kyoto, Nara and Kobe, and each of them is well worth a visit (they're all about 1 hour by regular train apart).

I wish I had more time - I have flown through Tokyo a number of times but never visited any part of Japan. This is unfortunately going to be a quick trip (5 nights total). I am sure it will just whet the appetite for more though!

So exciting for TATL J fliers!

Most importantly, this means we get to park at the show gates ^^^^^

this is actually good and bad. Before, I would take a NS flight to AMS or CDG (out of JFK). Now, with the chance to take a 747 to Europe, I am forced to connect to get to my European destination.

A month or two ago I could swear i saw a 747 doing a turn MSP-ATL-MSP on 12/20 (my birthday) and I had been thinking about booking a seat on the upper deck as a gift to myself before they get retired....Went to look again today and see that the turn is now on a 777 Does anyone know off hand of any dates in dec that there might be a 747 doing the turn? I know there was one today.....

Thanks for posting! I incorporated the new routes in the wiki.

Big, big ^

I'm looking for a TATL J to BCN sometime next fall. We were going to see about trying a different J product, but this will be a great opportunity to get on a DL 747 UD before they're gone!

Any ideas on why DL is moving some 747s from Asia to Europe?

This is the saddest thread on Flyer Talk. The UD on the 747 is like flying on your own private jumbo jet. Will definitely be booking some final flights to NRT for a last blast of nostalgia. Thanks for maintaining the wiki lamont2718.

Don't think anyone has posted anything more than this.

Private jumbo indeed. My wife and I went MNL-NRT in the upper deck. No other pax at all. FA very good to us the whole way. Captain showed me the cockpit and took pics after I commented on how sad it is to see these birds go away. Very cool.

Sure. DL has for several years spoken of drawing down the NRT hub (in favor of flying direct to non-Japan Asia, first from DTW then from SEA). More recently it has talked about reducing seat capacity into Asia as part of a broad investigation of fleet utilization. Fewer 744s to Asia - more 777s, 333s, 332s (and 767s to north Asia from SEA).

I am hoping it is (at least partially) because they are putting some A330's into the shop for satellite GoGo.

No info, just a guess.
