DL GM LAX-SYD on DL ticket (Virgin Australia)

I read the threads regarding issues with seats on VA leg if booked on DL.

Currently showing seat "requested" in premium economy DL6798 but now when selecting other PE seats, it shows "view only, select seats in your booked cabin". So I'll call VA as suggested in the other thread. Is it possible to get PE as a DL GM on a U (cheapo) fare? I'll report back.

The flight shows E half empty but maybe that's due to some delta.com bug or VA not assigning seats. Will report back on this as well.

Which lounge is accessable in LAX? DL lounge ($25) or VA (with GM card)?

thanks

Premium Economy on VA is a separate class of service, just like on AF. Barring an op-up, you can only sit there if you pay the appropriate fare. It is not like Economy Comfort on DL where you can buy a seat for $x (perhaps $0 if PM/DM) in addition to your discount economy fare.

Was able to get economy seat assignments by calling VA at 18552538021 but no perks like premium economy or preferred seating. I'll try again at LAX with my GM card and maybe Plat delta cc.

Can I get in the VA lounge with the GM card? I have seen yes and no answers in prior threads

Thanks

I was able to do the same on DL6798. In fact, I was able to select myself a business class seat in addition to a premium economy seat on a T fare on DL6798 through delta.com. In both cases, the seat assignment "stuck" but said "requested" only. The chances that VA will issue a boarding pass for you with that seat are somewhere between slim and nil, in my opinion (though it's possible that they'll op-up you in the right cosmic confluence of circumstances). I have always chickened out and chosen a decent regular economy seat instead of getting to the airport and effectively having no assigned seat, though.

You can access any Delta Sky Club while on this same day itinerary with your GM card, but not the contracted VA lounge (the VX lounge) at LAX.

Many threads state this; here's the first one Google found: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/delta...ge-access.html

Lounge Access

Velocity Platinum and Gold members receive complimentary entry into owned and operated Delta Sky Club lounges, around the world*.

SkyMiles Medallion Diamond, Platinum and Gold members receive complimentary entry into the Virgin Australia lounge network*.

* On the same day of travel only.

ashili - I think you are saying complimentary VA lounge access doesnt apply because Im on a DL ticket?

epilogue:

for the benifit of others with similar questions-

Virgin Australia lounge access is included for GM+ (see previous post). This was automatic with partner gold indicated on the boarding pass I was provided a LAX loft lounge invite for 1 and a guest. Very nice experience prior to the long LAX-SYD leg.

I was able to get a premium economy seat upgrade but it took some effort. I gave the VA loft lounge service rep. a printout of the PE seat I had selected on delta.com and showed him that the delta app was still showing a PE seat selected prior to boarding. This was strange because I had called VA to get a seat assignment on their system (in E). I also was upfront that the DL seat status was "requested", but my only point was that I ws able to select PE seats at booking. This may be a glitch (may have been fixed) integrating the 2 carrier systems. In any case, guest relations came through and was able to get a PE seat. The extra space was nice, but the difference between economy and PE didnt appear that great (same food, free booze - albeit self serve bar in PE- very useful for staying hydrated with water bottles). A minus in PE is that none of the armrests move completely despite what seatguru indicates on a 777-300 ER. The middle arm rest move maybe 40 degrees - not enough to clear the center row to sleep. My plane was maybe half full. Regular economy armrests clear the rows as indicated on seatguru.

Didn't see this until now. I was saying that VA lounge access doesn't apply to the Loft based on DL elite status, regardless of how ticketed.

Hmm. Colour me very pleasantly surprised on both counts. I have been denied a lounge pass to the Loft as a DL Gold, once in January and once in March, when my Gold status was printed on my VA boarding pass. Both times, they said VA elites (or business class) only, and after considerable checking.

LAX - SYD VA vs DL

Apologize hijacking the Virgin Atlantic vs Delta thread - my experience and a couple of questions

As a GM I flew LAX - SYD in May via VA. VA club was great at LAX (free for DL GM and includes a companion pass). I talked my way into VA PE class (DL website bug lets you pick VA PE seats) which gives you some extra room, amenities, open self service bar for early part of the flight but I flew back VA E class and found the food the same and the drink service was fine (alcoholic drinks included free). No VA club in SYD. 2 bags free each way but VA was much stricter than DL on carry on bag weight.

So I'm considering the DL flight in Sept. As mentioned earlier, EC seats are a plus. Full mileage credit seems to be another advantage.

Is the LAX DL club ok? (for me its $25, no companion with SM plat AMEX)
Although unlikely, looks like a Y fare could result in an upgrade?
Any other pros/cons?

If you're a GM you'll have SC access in LAX as GMs receive free access to the SC when on an international ticket.

As for the LAX SAKYxlub, I found it crowded and run down when I was there a year ago. Furniture was broken. I found it very disappointing but maybe it's improved in the last year.

I'm on my way to Brisbane tonight, sitting in the Virgin Loft Lounge. I like it, friendly, quiet, free quality food and drinks, and they escort you to the plane, no complaints here
