Mileage to KOA

I am looking to book airfare from MSN (small market airport) to KOA using reward miles. I know some people have had luck using partners to fly there on business for pretty cheap but this doesn't seem like an option for me given the proximity of my mid may target (if anyone finds something let me know ;) ).

Currently Delta is asking 65,000 miles for tickets which ring up around $810. Seems decent to me (not great), but I am curious - am I better off saving my miles for something else?

Another thing I looked was was booking a k fare ($1300) and upgrading with miles instead. However, it appears that the LAX-KOA flight isn't upgrade eligible while the others are (DL1299 on 5/18). Any reason behind this? Does delta not let you upgrade on flights from the west coast to HI? It looks like they should from what I read...
