DL Schedule Mess

DL is canceling all morning flights to ATL from SAN effective March 13. 6:55 and 8 am are gone. Lost my connections to Europe next Saturday, and teh only thing they could do is to put us on the LAX-ATL flight (or overnight in ATL, or go SAN-MSP-DTW-Europe). No compensation ($280 car service to LAX and $100 from SAN instead of the $50 parking), less convenient seats, etc. The DM agent I spoke to was very nice, checked all systems and spoke to operations and confirmed that it was not a system glitch.

Canceling all morning flights to ATL is unfathomable -- these are the heaviest traveled routes, and now there is no way to connect to Europe at all without o/n or flying out of LAX. Handling the SNAFU with the existing reservations - even worse. Very disappointing. "Honesty and integrity" and "taking care of our most loyal flyers"? Hardly.

Same story different city! Tulsa and OKC same story. The morning flights to DTW remain from Tulsa but not the morning flights to ATL. And not just the morning flights. ExpertFlyer is the best resource at the moment as the Medallion Line is unaware of the issues. The bookings remain but not the flights.

Airlines don't cancel flights with only 4 days notice if it's just a removal from the schedule. They would contact you if something like this occurs. Every time I have had a schedule change, which is a lot, I get contacted roughly 2-3 months in advance. Just went to look at tickets from SAN-ATL and they are still selling seats, even for the 13th, which would indicate a schedule change happened within the allowable timeframe.

That being said, did you ask them to route you through SLC and CDG from SAN?

SNAFU is too mild a term for this short-notice upheaval of your TATL routing.

Yes Delta Airlines did cancel flights end of week and onward for reasons the Medallion Line cannot explain. Last call the supervisor indicated the flights were cancelled without notice. The customer service agent were very helpful but had no clue. End result I was booked on another flight as the booked flight no longer existed.

Normal airlines do not, you are right. Dl is obviously different. They are not selling anything for the morning flights on the 14-15-16-17th. EF shows as canceled. DM agent confirmed cancellation, not a system glitch, and called ATL operations.

It couldn't be an IT thing, because their IT department is rockstar level.

Obviously I am wrong, but you didn't answer my question. :)

Well, gives me a hope that it may be a glitch after all? No? A third call to DM, same story though -- this is not a glitch, this is a real cancellation.

Sorry, did not mean to ignore. CDG is a no go, the only connection was SAN-SLC-CDG-MUC, and one leg is full. Nothing else out of SLC that would work for us. JFK is not an option either. SAN-MSP-DTW-AMS-MUC is not something I am willing to do, especially using KLM on TATL.

bpe Mar 9, 2013 12:01 pm

Try asking to see if they can put you on SAN-SEA-CDG/AMS-wherever (with SAN-SEA on Alaska). There are flights around 6:30 and 8 am, and if it's not just a routine schedule change they should be able to put you on those flights if there's space.

A4K Mar 9, 2013 12:03 pm

I had a Den to Atl flight all but booked and they must have removed it from the schedule just as I was booking this morning, as I hit purchase it said there was an error. This is for 3 weeks from today mind you not November.

When I called the agent thought I was crazy when I told her the flight was there two minutes ago and I couldn't find it online.

I too wonder if this is an IT issue or actual cancellations which would be so odd this close to departure date.

davetravels Mar 9, 2013 12:09 pm

It's not just a few days in March . . . It's all the way into May, the first flight of the day from SAN/ATL is at 1:45 PM, which seems VERY odd! I wonder if they're just in the middle of the usual Saturday schedule shuffle, and flights may re-appear tomorrow, perhaps on a different aircraft.

Often1 Mar 9, 2013 12:09 pm

I would take the TCON offered by DL (SAN-ATL the night before). Too many hops before the TATL is a prescription for misconnects. Unless you've got nothing planned for Europe, you've got as good as it likely gets.
