Same Day Standby Upgrade

Have a confirmed seat in F this afternoon but trying to get on an earlier flight. No space so I SDS'd and am currently #1. Provided someone in F doesn't show is there any way to get an upgrade on this?

Is there such a thing as SDS for First Class only? Are you willing to take a coach seat on the earlier flight? Are you #1 in the standby list or the upgrade list?

"Supposedly" no. SDSB is coach only. YMMV

Confused... Was your original ticket in F or was your original ticket UG'd to F? Are you standby for the earlier flight, or did you SDC to the earlier flight and now have a confirmed seat in Y?

If you already did a SDC and have a confirmed Y seat on the earlier flight, you are #1 on the UG list and your chances might actually be pretty good. All it would take is for one person in F on your earlier flight to have taken an even earlier flight or not show and you are in F. If you are on the SB list with a Y ticket, your chances are low, as usually, if the plane is full, the GA will have to move someone else from Y to F to open the Y seat for your SB to clear. Usually, even if there is one more F seat available, all UGs will clear before SB list is cleared. If you are SB on an F ticket, technically an F seat will have to become available for you to get on the flight, although GAs will usually allow you to volunteer for Y. If you do a SB and an F seat is available, it should be yours to SB clear into, before anyone on the UG list is cleared into F.

I was in Y on the afternoon flight. On Standby list for AM flight as currently it's overbooked.

Then, unfortunately, you fall into the bolded part below.

Had this happen recently on an SLC-SFO flight. When the guy was called to the desk to get his UG BP, I saw a Gold tag on his bag. At least I was on the earlier flight, and got into SFO more than two hours earlier than expected.

If you're at the airport in time for the flight you want and don't have checked bags, try asking the GA to put you on only if you can get a FC seat. This is most likely to work for relatively empty and on time flights with few elites, so it isn't likely to help the OP.

When you SDC or go standby, you lose any confirmed free elite upgrade you already have on the original flight. Already having been upgraded doesn't give you priority for FC on the new flight.

Thanks all. In the waaaaayyyy back in a middle seat but at least I'm on the plane!

Business class ticket on an international flight last week and gave up the seat to SB for an earlier flight and sit in the back for the last leg rather than a 6 hour layover in ATL.

I tried to SDC from a paid first (A) ticket last week. According to the GIDS, there were two unclaimed F seats. GA said no, because I was on a discounted FC fare and she only had full fare F tickets available. When I plead my case to the SkyClub agent, she didn't understand why that mattered, but alas only the GA could do anything, and she wasn't doing anything.

I regularly SDC with an A fare into an A fare (which means keeping the FC seat), provided that there is A fare availability. If the SDC flight is at A0, then yes you would go standby, but most likely would clear into the F2 assuming you are a diamond.

I have gone A/P to F when only F was available but only via the diamond desk.

You should have called the DM line. You should be able to SDC directly from an A fare, assuming that you are already confirmed in FC on the original flight, directly into FC whenever F > 0.

Huh? A is FC. As long as there is F1 you should get the seat. Just like if you were on a T fare and it was Y1.
