Now we are back to mostly flying blind about near-term upgrade possibilities when booking or needing to waste a lot of time querying the agent about this availability going down the list of convenient flights one after the other until we hit one that works.
It will be interesting when NYC is my destination from South Florida and to LGA I start with FLL, proceed to MIA, then try PBI. If none of them work, then I can go on to do the same for JFK.
Perhaps this signifies the complete end of internet booking for PMs and DMs in favor of using an agent to parse the codes and then booking on the spot.

Why should it? When they say "not displayed", I suspect it just means it doesn't appear in regular "Flight Availability" (to use EF parlance) listings for the DL flight. That is already the case today anyway with Delta flights on EF (they do not display "G" or "Z" or "V" or "X" availablity) in the regular res display. You have to go to "Award/Upgrade Availability" on EF to see the upgrade availability on DL metal flights - I suspect it will be the same going forward, just that the letters will have changed.

Seats for complimentary Medallion upgrades (which had formerly been displayed on EF as V or X) are now newly categorized by DL as R and O and are (for now anyhow) being hidden so that availability is not being seen.
For this domestic business traveler, the display of V and X was the be-all and end-all reason to subscribe to EF.

That is absolutely not the case. There has been a sea change.

Programs: Now just a lowly DL PM/1MM. This industry needs some competition. It's just not enjoyable anymore.

I got a headache halfway through Phase 1.....reminds of the programming instructions that came with my first VCR.
Can anyone explain what this means, in layman's terms? Any reason for concern?

Just tried a sample booking IAD-CDG-HKG and return in AF premium economy for March and it looks like the cheapest fares are still pricing in A at about $2200/2300 RT. And according to the award chart A will still earn the 25% base miles bonus and the 50% MQM bonus.

Sorry, you're right - just noticed on EF. Hopefully ExpertFlyerVoice can chime in. I am hopeful that this is just a timing/coding thing, and that they will eventually display R and O. If this was supposed to be a wholesale elimination of upgrade inventory display on DL, they could have eliminated all upgrade inventory, but G and Z are still available through EF even for domestic flights....
