I much prefer CZ, but the past few years it appears MU has more options in northern China and also intra-Asia. And finding availability on MU has always been a huge pain between lack of award availability and needing to do long sells. MU used to work on EF, but not reliably in 2+ years.
Wow. I did not know it had increased that much! I flew PVG-JFK segment on MU and the total taxes were less than $150 (also included MEL-PVG on FM Shanghai Airlines).

Has anyone booked a SkyMiles SV award ticket lately?

I'd really like to do JFK-RUH-CGK (or KUL/SIN, only if that makes the layover possible) in J AND visit Riyadh during the layover. Fortunately, there's a Saudi consulate in New York, so I wonder how I could get a trip up the Kingdom Centre and a couple of meals out of the transit too...

Thanks,
BMB

There is a multi-part trip report on Saudia (including lounges) and if you still want to go, I think you may receive better answers if you ask your questions there:

Thanks for the link, michael_v.

Though it states that as a a woman of a certain age/marital status, she wasn't able to get a transit visa. Getting a transit visa would be the only reason for me to fly SV!

Is all AF award inventory gone off delta.dumb?? I see nothing, no flights on any day CDG -> US for next June. I just about checked every date.

It makes me CRY how easy it is to see it on alaskaair.com. Calling the Medallion line didn't help, they're not even "supposed to" try to manually request partner space and are instructed to "trust" what the system shows (I could hear exasperation in the agent's voice).

AF 688 shows available coach seats for 3 on 6/17, 18, 19 and 20, but nothing shows on delta.dumb, and phone agents don't see it either.

They are probably blacking out the peak summer season. CDG-IAH on 9/18/2014 shows available on delta.com, for example.

Indeed, partner redemptions on those dates are blocked by AF, as previously discussed in the http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/delta...l#post19341014 Thread:

Remember reading some blog that said that AS accepted the mileage hike by AF and so has access to more availability.

That could well be it (or, perhaps, someone at AF-KL simply forgot to block AS in their system).

Or perhaps cause AS doesn't try to screw AF and every one of its partners.

Hi FT,

OK, well I'll put my Saudia plans on the back burner for now, but as a true DL award travel rookie, I'd like to plan a very convoluted route from NYC to SIN for under 130K (roundtrip, though it's not like DL does one-ways for half the mileage anyway).

Yes. Something akin to NYC-ATL-(somewhere in Europe)-OTP (a couple of days stopover)-DXB-(somewhere on the way to SIN)-SIN. This would be booked in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks,
BuildingMyBento

There is a 4-segment limit each way on DL award tickets. They are also not likely to accept NYC-SIN via Europe. You may be able to book open-jaw for example NYC-CDG-OTP(stopover)-DXB, SIN-XXX-NYC and then use miles from other programs for a DXB-SIN one-way. OTP-DXB on RO will likely incur (modest) fuel surcharges.

Thanks for your reply, michael_v.

Ah, so you reckon NA-Europe-Asia is a no-go? Have you tried booking it before anyway?

So, if I went west from NYC, could I do NYC-MEX (stop for a day)-TIJ-NRT-SIN? Would the MEX-NRT count as one segment (it stops in TIJ westbound because of MEX's elevation).
