Expiring Voucher, please help

I've got a $300 voucher I received from accepting a bump. It's not transferrable. I've been looking for a time to spend it on a vacation, but havent had time off and cant plan for a date in the future. It expires in 3 days!!!! What are my best options. I have 95k delta points without any status. I was thinking buying miles? Unless anyone else has a better idea.

What if you used it on a fully refundable ticket?

I called customer service about your suggestion. It looks like they refund the money back to the voucher, which is expired, and it therefore wasted. Great idea though it looks like they thought of it first.

Perhaps not transferable, but can't you book a ticket for someone else?

Not if you re-spend it right away (not creating a new ETV)! ;)

But i you buy a refundable ticket for sometime out in the far futre, can you change it to something usefull later?

Agreed that there are no holes to "get the money back".

This was discussed some time ago. At that time it was stated that the voucher portion would be refunded as a new voucher with a new expiration date.

They have "fixed" that now. Both the fly by and exp date of the 1st ETV will follow you. But, as said, if you just respend the refundable right away on say another ticket that is inside the rules. For now..... :p (confirmed all this for a post)

Update

To update anyway who is still reading this:

I booked a fully-refundable ticket the day before expiration, hoping to roll the dice. Called in today trying to move the ticket for an flight 6 months from now but no luck. The voucher is without value as soon as I cancel the sham booking.

I could have bought 8000 skymiles but instead came up with nothing. Sigh.

why didn't you figure out a week or weekend that you would be free and spend it on a trip?

Wish I could have. I didnt have any 2 consecutive days off in the next several months. My schedule is not at all flexible :(

AFAIK, you cannot use an ETV to purchase Skymiles so your loss isn't what it appears

Funny how efficient they are at fixing IT when it improves their bottom line.

Expiring Voucher, please help

Lesson learned: don't take a bump if you don't think you have a reasonable chance of using the voucher within a year. let them IDB you and they'll be forced to give you cash. Or let someone else take the bump.
