The Definitive Answer on when Amex MQMs will post

No I don't have it. I am looking for it. FT thus far says a number of things. Close of billing, immediately, couple of weeks.

I just wanted to know if anyone has a close to official answer on this one. I was approved for the Reserve in November. Card was lost in the mail. Called and they overnighted it to me. Made my first purchase on 12/6. A friend also reiterated the close of billing so I called customer service to have my billing end date moved from 12/18 to 12/10. Want to know what I saw when I logged in to my account? My new billing date was 1/10/13! And they couldn't even get it into a 2012 date by then.

Much appreciated if you have any decent info on this. Also, has anyone had success with reaching out to Amex or DL proactively to move this along?

If you are talking about the welcome bonus MQMs, mine posted a day or so after my first purchase went from "pending" to "actual," which was a couple days after I made the purchase. So 3-4 days. No bill has yet posted, but the 10K MQMs are in my Delta account.

[added] Since you asked for definitive I looked it up. Purchase Dec 7, stayed "pending" I think until Dec 10, and on Delta the transaction was Dec 11 "activity date" with a Dec 12 "posting date." Four days, plus one to show on my Delta account.

I applied for the Business Delta Reserve on 11/20, received the card 11/23, and made an online purchase the same day. "SKYMILES AMEX COBRAND THRESHOLD MQM BONUS" of 10K miles posted on 11/29. I believe an Amex phone rep would tell you to expect miles to post 1 to 2 weeks after the first purchase, but mine only took 6 days.

Your MQMs for first purchase will be based on when your purchase posts to your amex account. So long as it posts on or before Dec 31, 2012 any MQMs earned will go towards 2012 regardless of statement date. It took less than a week from my first purchase to when my first purchase MQMs showed up on DL (although amex will tell you expect up to 2 weeks).

If you meet a spend threshold (excluding the first purchase threshold), the MQMs will post within a couple days after the statement closes. Mine closes the 2nd of every month and the threshold bonus MQMs usually post the 4th.

If I am close to meeting a spend threshold during December, I want to make sure it posts by Dec 31st. The remaining days go towards the next year. Regardless, If I meet my threshold in December, my threshold bonus MQMs will post a few days after my statement closes (usually the 4th of January).

I upgraded from Gold to Reserve and had 15k miles post after my statement closed. But these miles are RDM, not MQM. I can't recall whether the upgrade offer was 15k RDM *plus* 15k MQM, or whether the the 15k should actually have posted as MQM.

Any ideas?

This question and it variants gets asked ad nauseum - do a search of thread titles with "Amex MQM Post" in them and you will get a more threads than you will want to read. But in short all MQM are based on the calendar year spending and will count for the calendar year in which they were earned regardless of the billing cycling / posting etc.

I did the search and there seem to be conflicting reports. Per my post, I wanted to know if anyone had an official or as close to official response that was as up-to-date as possible. Thanks though.

When in doubt of conflicting responses from anonymous sources on the web, an official answer can always be found with a quick call back to AMEX. :) FWIW I've had bonus MQMs post on my January statement many times, always backdated to an activity date of 12/31 the previous year. The one time that didn't happen, a quick call to AMEX got it fixed right away.

Thanks. Yeh I called while posting. The rep said DL was completely responsible but that regardless, the MQMs should be credited to the year in which a purchase was made. I guess I will just drop down for a little bit until they post, if they post after the New Year. Here's hoping!

And if you have to call back, be persistent. I had one year where I didn't notice that the bonus MQMs had not posted in January (long before I knew about FT ;)), but early March noticed I wasn't even FO any more. I recall having to call both AMEX & DL but eventually it was all unraveled & my lowly Silver Medallion status was restored. ^

Thought you guys might get a kick of how this finally went down (and inspired a new thread). Argh...
