Award changes after route changes
So delta's last round of schedule reductions at MEM killed my April award routing.
I had : MEM - LAX - OGG (Afternoon direct to LAX) HNL - ATL - MEM 135k miles in first. Not great but better than the 157k this would book out to now. The afternoon direct to LAX is now gone, the only direct is at 8:30AM. I would have a 7 hour layover. The computer rebooked through LAS to LAX with a 10 minute connection for the flight to OGG, so that isn't going to work. How does delta handle these situations on award tickets? As I try to change this around will I be limited to only Med awards or I will owe more miles? I don't want to double connect on the mainland, that's just more opportunity to miss the OGG flight. I'll probably ask for them to move us to the ATL - HNL and connect on Hawaiian to OGG, but I'm guessing they will say no. |
They are usually very flexible when this happens. Just have the flights you want ready and they will probably do it. They will override capacity on DL metal. I once had BDL-AMS-MXP-FCO booked on an award ticket. After BDL-AMS got axed I called up and DL overrode capacity and gave me JFK-FCO non-stop no questions asked on DL metal. Good luck!

They are saying I can't connect in HNL for the schedule change because I would be adding a partner flight.
If I want to do MEM-ATL-HNL-OGG they want 40k miles. My options to change for free are a 7 hour layover or a double connection on the mainland. MEM-ATL-LAX-OGG. |
Working it out.
MEM-ATL-HNL-OGG and the same return path. It cost me 15k miles but we added in a round trip HA award so it saved me the cash I would have had to use to book the OGG - HNL since my first award was booked as an open jaw. |

That seems to be a reasonable accomodation.
We are booking a 10 hour layover in HNL to do a little sightseeing on the way home, with the new HA policy I figured I would have to pick up my luggage since my HA flight wasn't going to be on the same ticket. |
