DL awards and advice on minimizing future change fee
I'm about to book a DL award for myself and my wife for future business class travel.
Right now, the plan is for my wife and I to travel on the same return flights, but it is entirely possible that I may wish to change my portion of the return to extend my portion of the trip only. It is also possible that we may both switch to a DL nonstop, rather than a partner itinerary with a connection, if availability opens up at the low level on the former sometime in the future.
I understand the reissue/redeposit fee to be $150. If I book us on the same reservation, am I correct in assuming that we'd only be facing a $150 fee, not $300, for a future change or even a future re-deposit?
Also, in the even that I change only my return, but not hers, will I be able to pay a single $150 fee and split the PNR, or will I get charged twice because her ticket will get re-issued too if the PNR gets split?

Unfortunately the change fee is $150/person regardless of whether both people are in one PNR or two separate PNR's. This means $150/person for whoever's flights are changed.
If the PNR gets split and your ticket is reissued, you only pay the $150 for your reissuance. Even though the reservation is split, her reservation will not be changed at all. Depending on how they split it, one of you will get a new confirmation/record locator number. But her ticket number and all flights will remain the same.

This may not help much, but I would put the ticket on hold and at least get 2 or 3 days of free changes out of it.
And if you have a change made, the agent can extend the hold date out another 3 days.
If the agent makes a change, the default is a 12 hour hold, so you need to ask for the full extension.
