DL.dumb got rid of TIMATIC

Before I remember DL.dumb having TIMATIC if I wanted to search for entry/exit requirements by searching 'timatic delta'
Now, it's not there thanks to the new enhancements of the website.
Are they going to put it back in?

mn567 Nov 12, 2012 5:09 pm

I guess www.visacenter.com now pays them so TIMATIC byebye.

I am looking things up with TIMATIC on skyteam's website: http://www.skyteam.com/en/your-trip/...sa-and-Health/

3Cforme Nov 12, 2012 5:15 pm

IATA would be happy to sell you a subscription to Timatic, most surely.

Another "enhancement"? :td:

Timatic Visa Info Gone from Eelta.com

It appears that the Delta.com page that queries the Timatic database is now gone in the site redesign.

Instead, there is a link (under re-entry to US of all places) to the IATA site that queries Timatic. However, it requires more information and is more difficult to use than the old Delta query form.

And, it doesn't work correctly. Try requesting information for a trip from the US to the UK.

For some reason, the destination always resets to Wales. Now you know and I know that Wales is part of the UK. Does everyone? Does this site even work? Can it be depended upon to provide valid travel information?

I can call LH and they will do it for free.
(Wait times as a non status pax though are terrible!)

What's worse about the loss of TIMATIC itself for me is that I now feel guilty about advising all of those poor souls ISO of China visa info to Delta.com because now, not only are they receiving inaccurate information, they're being duped into accepting that the that visacenter.com's obnoxious fees are some sort of law.

And they are completely avoidable too by using any TA or going to the airport.

Timatic does not always provide accurate information. From my experience, it is often inaccurate and if airport agents depend on it, it may take you a long time to check in as they need to call the consular officers and find the real information (that Timatic does not have have or has in it incorrectly). So, don't rely on Timatic, but rather check with the embassy/consulate of the country in question for the accurate and up-to-date info. Timatic may be usually about right, but it's not always up to date, and not always correct.

In the case of China, TIMATIC is generally more reliable than the garble that various PRC embassy websites crank out.

From my experience quite the contrary though. I had MU agents at HKG (Kowloon Airport Express Station, so may be that is why they were rather...not well informed) looking at TIMATIC and not seeing any info there re: 48 hour TWOV at PVG/SHA, and indeed it didn't have it. So it took a long time to have them call the consular authorities to learn of the 48h TWOV, of which Timatic had no mention (not online and not the big phonebook like paper book of it they were consulting). Thankfully I had a printout describing 48h TWOV at PVG/SHA from some China Embassy/Consulate (forgot which one, but one that had actual up-to-date info on its site, you certainly do have a point about those web sites sometimes being not much better and not more up to date than timatic).

If I wasn't checking in the day before flight and just before I was about to take the train to the airport, I'd have never made it - it took that long. All "thanks" to the inaccurate and incomplete TIMATIC. Which, again from my experience, is not to be trusted. Always check with an actual authoritative source, don't just take what timatic says for granted or as being correct. But of course, YMMW...
