Delta to "Re"-Introduce Widebodies on LAX-JFK

It looks like starting March 30 2013, Delta will have a single B767Z plying the LAX-JFK route as a flight number continuation of DL16/17 to and from Sydney.

16 LAXJFK 0830 1705 B767Z
17 JFKLAX 1815 2135 B767Z

And then beginning Sunday June 02 2013, there will be four widebody flights on LAX-JFK in addition to three of the BE equipped 757E.

Only the Widebody Schedule:
0206 LAXJFK 0630 1505 B767Z
0016 LAXJFK 0830 1710 B767Z
0862 LAXJFK 1115 1955 B767Z
1162 LAXJFK 2130 0600 B767Z

0763 JFKLAX 0700 1010 B767Z
0127 JFKLAX 1530 1855 B767Z
0017 JFKLAX 1815 2135 B767Z
2363 JFKLAX 2100 0025 B767Z

As mentioned in the other modifications thread, the "767Z" is a high density version of the 767ER that will have 26 lie-flat seats in Business and 200 seats in Y+/Y.

this will throw a serious hurting on AA and UA in J on that route. Kudos to DL. Flat beds on JFK to LAX is long overdue. AA and UA have had that market cornered for to long. Welcome to the present DL ^

The extra capacity in J probably wont mean better UG chances for us medallion members though. I'll bet that with flatbeds in J across the continental US, those puppies will be mostly filled with paid J customers.

also jfk - sea with flat beds

Not sure if this was mentioned on FT, but starting June 1st, DL is running a daily 767 T equiped with 36 flatbed seats on jfk to sea and sea to jfk

842 sea - jfk depart 0700 arrive 1525
1043 jfk - sea depart 1500 arrive 1830

looks like SFO is the only big western city that isn't getting any love with flatbeds

Too bad - if they started flying to SFO it would be a real incentive for those of us connecting from Europe or elsewhere. Better to do TLV-JFK-SFO that way than connecting in Europe where LH just downgraded their TLV planes, but I'll definitely keep in in mind next time I have to fly to SEA.

FWIW, a frequency does drop on JFK-LAX next summer with this new capacity (it was 8x 75E last summer; this upcoming summer is 4x 76Z and 3x 75E). BusinessElite capacity overall increases to 152 seats/day (from 96) while economy seats inches up slightly (from 1264/day to 1274/day).

The other big improvement is the increase in Economy Comfort seats - keep in mind that the 75E only has 11 seats in EC and while I forget how many the 76Z will have, I know it is certainly a bit more, so that should be another improvement for Medallion flyers.

DL needs to add lie-flat seats. AA is adding A321s next year in a three-class configuration. FIRST class will be a 1-1 configuration with suites. Biz a 2-2 and Y a 3-3.

If DL did not do this they could expect to lose market share on this route.

According to Delta, 76Z will have 29EC.

Thanks...so all told there should be 149 EC seats on this route now versus 88 before - a rather nice 69.3% increase to go along with the aforementioned J seat increase!

while lie flats are nice (though outside of the 7/9 PM JFK flights and the redeyes back to JFK I know I rarely get any sleep on the JFK-LAX route regardless of seat type) FO's get hurt by this change as they will no longer have access to exit row seating for free unless Delta decides to make Rows 20 and 21 "preferred" when the 76Z is operating a domestic flight. The 75E you can book 18 D/E or Row 36 if you want preferred, non-EC seats

I donít have a lot of experience with the JFK-SEA route, but I notice on EF that DL has loaded a fair (not huge) amount of X and Z inventory for this 767 on many of the random dates I checked for next July and August.

Seems that kind of UG inventory is currently pretty scarce on this route.
