Forced to fly Delta - What does it mean?
While not a newbie on Flyertalk, I am a newbie here in the Delta forum. Due to very low prices, I am being required to fly Delta out of BWI to Beijing, instead of my more usual LH or ANA.
No, I am not going to whinge about the indignity of it all, or how I hate Delta - I just don't know anything about it. I've tried doing some searches on this forum, but either because of the merger or because I am not coming up with the right search terms, I am not finding the answers I want. The facts: I am flying BWI-DTW-PEK in Business class. I am a Flying Blue member with no status - AF became too expensive to French West Africa, and I don't fly Kenya Airways enough to get status any more. So here are the questions: 1. Is there a lounge in BWI? 2. Which lounge is the best to use in DTW? 3. Is there a lounge in PEK? 4. Will the DTW-PEK flight have fully flat, angled flat, or ??? type of seating? Thanks! |

All the lounge info is on Delta.com or Skyteam.com, you don't need FT for locations.
What is the aircraft type on DTW-PEK? |
title is a bit overdramatic - no?
|
There is no Skyclub in BWI or IAD but there is one in DCA if you're willing to change your origin. There is a lounge in PEK you can use.

DTW-PEK is on a Boeing 777. This video should pretty much tell you what to expect in flight:

The international departures out of DTW are typically in the middle of the A concourse, which has a large SkyClub with showers right next to it. The other SkyClub is over by the B/C concourse which is where most of the short hop domestic flights arrive and depart out of. You'll probably arrive in B/C, then take the underground walkway/tunnel over to the A concourse where you'll find the SkyClub and the international gates right where you come up from the tunnel.
Looks like DTW-PEK is on a 777 which will have fully flat beds with all seats having direct aisle access (1 down each side and 2 down the middle) http://www.seatmaestro.com/images/comments/1334937.jpg |

Clearly
Sounds like the OP's expectations are already pretty low, so there should be no disappointment. |

A has plenty of "short hop domestic flights" too. You are forgetting TWO SkyClubs, one at each train station on A.

There's an Airspace Lounge at BWI. AMEX Platinum holders get in free. (I'm guessing they don't mean the Delta-branded AMEX).
http://www.airspacelounge.com/faq.php?itemnum=7 The AirSpace Lounge is located on Concourse D and offers all BWI passengers a quiet, relaxing retreat. For prices as low as $17.50/day, lounge patrons will find complimentary food and non-alcoholic beverages, wireless internet, power outlets at every seat, comfortable seating, workspace areas & in-lounge restrooms. http://www.bwiairport.com/en/shops/s...airspacelounge |
Forced to fly DL where you'll be guaranteed a flat-bed with direct aisle access instead of LH where you might get a flat-bed for half the journey if you fly IAD-FRA on the 748 but only have direct aisle access in a few seats?
Wow, I pity you  |
You will get a good hard product - flat seat with aisle access
Good Movie selection Poor food and poor service. Meal will be rushed immediately after take off. Menu will be so thin it only has one side. Wine will be $7 bottles and glasses infrequently refilled. Delta believe that saving $10 on meal cost is a wise move on $14,000 tickets. (well its $14,000 from DTW to PEK). Pre-departure champagne is not champagne. No PJ's. If you've flown CX SQ LH BA TG or NH then expect it to be bad and you won't be disappointed. Grab seat 7A if you can - an extra shelf is nice Its all pretty bad (on the soft side) but at least the seat allows for good sleep |

Grab seat 7A if you can - an extra shelf is nice I don't know know what other airlines some of you fly TPAC or TATL but the DL soft product is equivalent to or better than most with the exception of airlines that offer a premium first class cabin. This year I have flown UA, AA, LH and KL and have longed for DL every time. Don't get me started on AF. I'll swim first. Its all pretty bad (on the soft side) but at least the seat allows for good sleep |
