Skymiles Award Ticket Devaluation: Fuel Surcharges on KE metal awards

Hi guys,

Wonder if we can get some more data points here:

I just called Delta to price out an economy award ticket ATL - ICN round trip on KE metal. Total taxes were a little over $380...

If I search online and use the DL flight via DTW the total taxes $49.50.

Quick search of a revenue fare on ITA shows KE YR and KE YQ totaling $301.80.

KE YR surcharge (YR) $300.00
KE YQ surcharge (YQ) $1.80
If this holds true here is another DL Skymiles devaluation

What have you guys paid recently?

Foo

KE has just switched from embedded Q surcharges to YR on their revenue fares. I'd love to hear if anyone has had any success persuading DL that they should not be collecting this.

I think it's only a matter of time before DL is next.

Wow - if this sticks this might be the biggest devaluation of the last 5 years!

KE availability is plentiful (during the non 6-month period DL already blacks out) and is really the ONLY highly regarded carrier with which DL partners for TPAC awards. Prices out as about $360 for J award from LAX-MNL via ICN.

This is just another blow and I'm glad I've already burned 800k this year

Can somebody with a KE Skypass account confirm that KE charges equivalent surcharges for redemptions in its own program?

Absolutely! I am amazed they have not started doing that already. After all, all the discounts (child, infant, etc.) apply only to the base fare component. Everything else remains the same (effectively eliminating the discount for the less expensive tickets). Mileage tickets will be next, and soon too (isn't it already true for x-EU award flights? A 3-hr "free" flight from CDG was quoted at $290 last week).

Not KE Skypass, but a KE LAX-ICN-HKG round trip using AeroMexico Club Premier km's was about $380 in taxes/fuel surcharge about a year ago.

Korean does charge this to its own members according to the KE forum here.

Yep. This changed to YR I think started last week. Tinkering with economy KE flights on matrix, you can easily price out lax - nrt for under 500. Quite interesting.
