sky priority security lane ATL

I know there has to be but I usually connect in ATL. This week I am starting from ATL so my question is how do you get to the Sky Priority security lane in ATL from the Delta counter?

As you leave the counters you will go to the right "behind" the international check in counters.

It's the "south" checkpoint.

That said the line there is often slower then the main checkpoint IMHO. They have several things at that checkpoint ("expert, elite and precheck" And very few "screening" points.

SO read the sign telling you how long the line is before you assume "it will be faster"

I only go down there for precheck. If my "random" number doesn't come up I hike back to the main checkpoint.

Are those check-in counters still for INTERNATIONAL since the new terminal opened? I would give directions from the elite/FC check-in (furthest away from baggage claim)… rather than going to the left to get to the atrium/main checkpoint, you go to the right and walk to the far end of the terminal (away from marta/rental cars/ground transportation).

Opps forgot about "intenrational moving" No idea what they are. Just go right with some of the checkin counters on your right and a wall on your left. You will probably walk into the area where a man/woman stands trying to direct you left, go right. You should pass the airline employee "entrance" on your left. But once you turn to go right you can see it off in the distance.

Special Assistance Lane

I believe the premium TSA lines are in the South and North check points attached to the T-concourse. I don't use them anyway since they are typically slower.

However this morning (my first flight as GM, btw. yay, advancing from FO hell), there was an airport agent standing at the Special Assistance lane calling for Sky Priority passengers. Of course I jumped onto the pretty short lane and enjoyed the first perk of being GM.

Is this something new at ATL? or was it just a special case this morning?

DL needs to keep the South Terminal international checkin open because many international TICKETS will not be on an internatiional flight for the first leg. ATL->JFK->FRA and the like are considered domestoc departures per ATL, so the pax is directed to the South Terminal, but DL tickets you international.

Also, it would make a mess if everybody who showed up at the "wrong" terminal had to take the shuttle.

I imagine at some point they might remove or repurpose some of the international S windows, but they presumably would wait till they see traffic paterns before doung such,

IME the airport workers at ATL are generally pretty good at temporarily redirecting traffic when things get busy. The recognition of SP, I would imagine, is more a function of DL's overwhelming presence at ATL.

Also, I think the south TSA checkpoint is the only one with SP and PreCheck lines. Not sure if other airlines have their elite lines at north, as I'm almost never over there. The main checkpoint is all general lines and reminds me of a select-a-quest, though it does move pretty quickly considering the sheer volume of humanity...

The North checkpoint does have an elite line (not called SP) that you can use if on DL. It is occasionally faster than the main line though, and usually faster than the South checkpoint (not counting Pre-check).

FYI, the Atlanta airport has a great mobile website that gives the real-time security wait times (http://iflyatl.com). Since I don't check bags it is easy for me to get to whichever checkpoint has the shortest wait.
