Advice on Award Ticket

Advice needed...

Traveling from MEM to LAS in around 40 days. Award tickets for nonstop flight is 50,000 for my wife and I (100,000 total). Do I book them now or wait?

Seems awfully high.

Do you have status on DL? Certain tiers can cancel and rebook if lower level awards open up for no charge.

At the end of the day, no one really knows if the price in miles will go up or down. If you're happy with it and really need those dates, book it.

Thanks for the reply. I am a Silver Medallion.

I have no idea the class. Why would that be so funny?

Comically sad might be more apt than funny.

It's a 1400 mile nonstop selling for $400 in coach, a month out. A 50k award doesn't look like good value in that instance. But if you've really gotta be there on those dates, YMMV.

If required award mileage drops, do I have the ability to get the the difference credited back to me?

No.

I wouldn't buy it for 50k. When they asked "is this in Y" they mean is this economy or first class?

What's funny is that Delta would even offer it for 50k in economy. It's comical. 25k is the normal price for economy, 40k for first class.

It may go down to that low level or it may not; you just have to keep checking. If you are platinum or diamond you could buy it at 50k and wait, then change it if does go down sometime before t-72 hours. As a silver medallion you would be charged $150 per ticket to make that change.

Sure you do - but you will pay the award change fee to get it.

If you're willing to try a perhaps lengthy routing to save miles - coach awards at 25K may be possible - call an agent and ask about travel involving Alaska Airlines and/or alternate dates.

Low FC is 45k, not 40k.
