What's strange about an iron plane? I heard about a lead zeppelin once.

Appreciate the practical advice.
Can anyone summarize what I can expect from the walk from 2D to 2E? I've read the signage can be poor, so any practical navigation advice is appreciated! |

When you arrive in 2D, you have to get out of the secure zone as anybody else with final destination CDG and you'll find yourself landside. Turn left towards terminals 2EF (signs are quite good, don't worry). You get to the TGV train station / Sheraton hotel, there you cross over to the other walking way (if you'd continue straight ahead you get to terminal 2F) and continue to 2E. In the middle of 2E, where the escalator comes up from arrivals level and from terminal 2F, you turn right and find yourself in front of the immigration booths. Head to the left end of the booths, where you find the priority line. Be sure you know your departure gate for ATL as after immigration check, you either head straight on for main gates or you take the automated shuttle for satellite gates. Be also aware, that AF from PRG could arrive in terminal 2F, there is no absolute certainty that they will spit you out in 2D. In that case, the walk would be even shorter. |

So it looks like I lucked out (or is there something hidden I don't know):
I fly from LHR to CDG and on to MIA (all on AF, with DL flt #) Arriving Aerogare 2 terminal E and departing the same terminal E Do i get to stay in the secure zone? P.S. This a great way to get home to South Florida at 2PM in the afternoon rather than the 7PM timeframe going through ATL. Of course I have to be up early for the 6:40am flight out of LHR, but getting home 5 hours earlier is worth it. |
CDG:td: At the lower 20% of the hundreds I've been through, especially if long delayed.

...it's challenging to weed out the nuggets of useful information from the "CDG is a toilet" and "CDG is not that bad" comments....

Note that there are currently two boarding piers in terminal 2E, the main one and satellite S3; if your flights do not use the same pier, you need to take an automated shuttle (45 seconds, a shuttle every 2mn), which, when you factor in the walk to/from the shuttle and the average wait time, adds 10mn to the transfer time. Enjoy your flights :). |
I just did the connection from 2E to 2D last week. It is not as horrific as all the stories here indicate (at last for me). The signage is quite good, and it's about a 10 minute walk. Very easy and not complicated.

I've only been through CDG a few times, but I found if I asked nicely for directions, I got a lot of help. I just held out my boarding pass and looked lost  (which in that airport is not difficult!)
@MarLim thanks for that detailed writeup! I feel much better about this connection! |

I'm sure there will be lots of friendly folks around to help, however, with all I've read on these and other forums I want to be as informed as possible. Besides, with my relatively short connection time I don't want to have to use too much of that as lost time. Plus I'm a little self conscious about not speaking a word of French; typically I'd at least like to pretend to attempt to converse in the local languages of the places I travel. With me only connecting through CDG I haven't really had the motivation to pick up French.

As long as we are on the CDG subject,
Next Friday, my wife and I are flying AF PV from DTW to CDG and on to FCO. I am told we will have to transfer from 2E to 2F, reverse order on the return. Any hints? I'm Elite + and she is Elite, do we both have access to the fast Skypriority lines as we are on the same reservation? I know we will have to clear immigration somewhere, don't know if its CDG or FCO? We will have about a 2.5 hr layover. I know I am supposed to get lounge access and bring one guest (her) if space is available whatever that means. Are there a number of lounges available or do I specifically look for one? Thanks, |

Are there a number of lounges available or do I specifically look for one? Thanks, The arrivals lounge has nice showers and a decent breakfast spread. Once you have cleared immigration upon arrival in 2E, it is a 10mn walk to the lounge, and another 10mn back to 2F. So you should decide whether you are going for the arrivals lounge depending on the time you have left after clearing immigration upon arrival. Note that, as mentioned above, you will need to clear security to reach the gate in 2F for the flight to FCO. If your arrival gate changes to a gate in 2F, it is also a 10mn walk to the lounge; if it is changed to a gate in 2C, it is less than 5mn away. If you still have time after going to the arrivals lounge, you can of course use the departures lounge in 2F. |
Sometimes when your itinerary indicates CDG, the airline gives you a little brochure on transiting CDG but I generally find it to be more confusing than useful. I try to follow the signs as I still don't have a good instinctive sense of the floor plan.
