Multi-City Award Booking
More frustration with the Award Engine..
Trying to book:
BOS->ATL (3/22), ATL->MHT (3/25).
50k miles.
But if I book a RT from either location choosing the corresponding one-way legs, it comes out to be 40k. Is this how Multi-City Award booking works?

So.. given I'm going to be doing this whole flying thing for quite a bit longer, should start learning the terms..
open-jaw?
I may be..
I'm trying to price an award using Multi-City.
Is this not the correct way to price out multi-city? I assume it's pricing both as Medium one-way awards?

Open Jaw - arrive at one city, depart from another.
General open jaw rule (not necessarily applying to you here) :OJ must be < in distance than the shortest leg to be valid.

An open jaw that's legal prices just fine. That is, since BOS-ATL and ATL-MHT are both longer than BOS-MHT (by a good bit!), it should price out at 40K if you've got medium both directions. On the other hand, if you tried to do, say, SEA-DFW-BOS (via SLC to DFW and ATL to BOS), the open jaw is too big, and so it will price at 50K in low because it's doing round trip pricing for a SEA-DFW one-way plus round trip pricing for a DFW-BOS one-way.

I can fully replicate your problem: a properly qualified open jaw (see mtkeller's explanation) showing Medium + Medium when segments appear as one-way searches prices at 50K in coach when pieced together as multi-city.

One could hope so.

There was a replicable Christmas-time pricing problem with stopovers. That was fixed after a few days. This is different from that - and no less annoying, really.

Hopefully the desk can force the pricing through on this but it is still very annoying.

I think it's recognizing the open-jaw correctly but incorrectly pricing one of the segments as high (30k) instead of medium. I can replicate the problem as well, but not all the time. I find some examples of Medium + Medium MHT-ATL-BOS open-jaws that price out correctly at 40k while others come in at 50k. Using Start Over to rerun the search can yield different results also. As usual, DL is magnificently inconsistent with it's award pricing.
