Remember the 6 July SEA-PEK DL129 incident? That pax appearantly got sentenced to two years in prison:
'Do you know who I am?’

I hope he wrote in a compliment to DL. Four benefits are advertised C+ features. Early Boarding, Dedicated OHB Space, Extra Leg-Room, and Free Premium Drinks. I’d be willing to bet he’s gotten tired of getting none of the benefits whatsoever as there is no such thing as early boarding, the OHB space on a torture tube is almost always packed with emergency gear, the front row bulkhead has no extra room and most of the time you consider yourself lucky to get the cup of water.
I make it a point to write this to DL every time I’m on one of these flights asking them to get rid of C+ on the CRJ-200. Really the only benefit is getting to be first off the plane.

It's interesting that his mother no longer works for DL. [He was using her nonrev privileges to travel when the incident occurred.]

I also think for non-revs now the employee must also be traveling in order for buddy passes/other immediate family members to sit in FC/D1. I bet that this change came as a result of this incident.

A real piece of work on my ATL-MCO flight tonight. We weren't in danger of cancelling at all. We were just waiting for the flight attendants. But he calls the DM line and trys to get them to protect him on a flight in the morning. We boarded shortly after he hung up.

It can be a smart move to get oneself protected quickly if it looks like a flight may cancel.

For the last year or so Delta doesn't "protect" its pax anymore. At least so according to every single time I've asked for that of the supposed DM line (though really there is no such thing, of course). The only option is to remove oneself from one flight and put on another, but there is no being on two flights at once anymore ('protected'), as that removes seats that DL would rather sell if it can (and truth be told, makes irrops handling more difficult for other pax also).

I've been protected by both GAs and phone agents within the past year. Most recently just a couple months ago during spring thunderstorms at IAD - the GA there protected me on a later connection ex-DTW IIRC.

That's not paranoid, that is a very, very smart move to ensure you are not SOL if you need to get somewhere, especially now that loads are high. Old habits die hard, especially if you grew up flying US. At the end of the day, if they announced even a minor delay, you would jump like you would for a VDB voucher and go to an agent (or call) and get rerouted or protected so their union wouldn't screw you. I have definitely been spoiled by DL's reliability - the few issues I have had...well they didn't really end up much of an issue at all.
