Delta unused miles

hi all,

few years ago I flew MOW-NYC-FLL-ATL-NYC-MOW with Delta and they gave me around 10,000 miles for this trip. Never used Delta since then. Just checked my delta account and saw the miles are still there. Is there any other of spending them/converting into something more tangible for me rather than buying another flight with delta? Other airlines miles or car rental/hotels?
btw, I am a star alliance heavy-user.
Thanks!

Welcome to FT!

Sorry to tell you they just recently shut down the Skymiles Marketplace for those without > GM status or a DL Amex card. DL does not participate in the 3rd party converters like points.com. Unfortunately your skypesos appear to be stranded.

The good news is that last year the changed the rules so that miles don't expire (unless they change the program rules again). Take that trip 3 or 4 times again and you might have enough for a domestic ticket on DL.

EDIT - You may still be able to get Magazine or Newspaper subscriptions. Log into delta.com and select "Skymiles", "Use Miles". You could also donate them to charity.

You might be able to obtain a Delta SkyMiles credit card through American Express and get about 30,000 bonus miles under certain conditions. (Specific offers vary.) That would give you enough miles to use for some travel purposes.

Yes, magazine and newspaper subscriptions still seem to be available to anyone. There's also a new option I hadn't noticed before -- Broadway shows!
