Upgrade ?
 

Our trip departs in approx 72 hrs. Im only a silver medallion. my wife does not have any status ( fare was bought together). Currently my flight says "upgrade requested". I know that before I have been able to view the upgrade list, but will this not be avail at all? will it only be a gate upgrade due to companion not having status ? Also, is it possible to be cleared a day out (notified via email) because of plenty of room in FC even in the companion situation? I know the seats avail map can be deceiving, but the flight currently shows only 4/18 FC seats full.

Companion can clear 24 hours out if there is upgrade inventory (which is different from FC inventory... there could be no upgrade inventory even if FC is relatively empty.) You will be able to see the upgrade list once you check in.

You can only see the upgrade list after you check in T-24. The amount of available FC seats has nothing to do with at window upgrades, it's all about how much V/X inventory they are listing for the flight. If there is V/X inventory available FO's and non status companions usually clear at the same time.(2 days before flight, non status clearing after all FO's.) Since you are on the same PNR, in this instance you will have the same upgrade priority as her(non status companion) and you will only clear after all other FO's have first.

Thanks for the info. So its really more about how many status members are flying that day and are trying for an upgrade compared to the upgrade inventory than it is the amount of unfilled seats in FC. That being said, it seems like get a non-status companion (and yourself) in an upgrade situation would almost be impossible... has this worked for anyone?

It happens. Depends on route, time and load. What flight is it?

It is definitely possible on some routes, especially on Saturdays and off-peak hours. Upgrades are generally pretty easy to certain leisure destinations, such as CUN. It all depends on where you're going, when you're going, and the aircraft that is taking you there.

Well we are 24 hrs out and we have checked in via the mobile app. it's still showing "upgrade requested" and won't even show me the current upgrade list. Guessing this is a bad sign...

If you are connecting and the first flight does not have FC, you need to wait until 24 hours before the second flight to see the list.
